Hey y'all.

So I'm a new Fiat owner, effectively. I'm an Irish Filmmaker, living in the Scottish Highlands. Used to work at a BMW scrapper yard in my teenage years, and grew up in a family of car enthusiasts, so we've owned a range of cars. We've had Cadillacs, Crown Victorias, Skodas, BMWs, and motorbikes, and many more.

My first car was a BMW Series 5 Estate, given to me for free, but it would have cost near four thousand to get it running. And that's how I came to work in a BMW yard. Then my second car was a Skoda Rapid Coupe 1989. My favourite car by far, it was a beauty, but couldn't get the parts for it, so it went to someone who could get it sorted. And so that leads me to this car, many years later, one university degree, and several international work years later.

I needed a car for work, and a friend has offered me a Fiat Punto. It's broken and off the road, but if I can get it going, it's mine for free. I've checked the MOT failure, and it failed on tyres, and the offside rear inner brake.

So here I am, trying to get it fixed so I can get it on the road and tidied up. If anyone out there can help me on my merry trek to get this on the road, hit me up! I'll be prowling about the forum looking for answers in the meantime!

Peace.

Tyres... self explanatory, Inner brake???? WTF is that? Strip down both back hubs and see what you have,

04 Active sport has standard rear Drum brakes, 2 types available ABS and Non ABS. Make sure you get the right ones. Non ABS shoes cost slightly more than the ABS ones but the 2 are not interchangeable, if its the same as my 04 Active sport then most likely NON ABS.
Reason for this is NON ABS ones come with the self adjustor mechanism on, ABS ones come without..
Ebay link is to show you what the NON ABS ones look like but personally i would rather buy brakes from a reputable parts shop rather than EBay

When you say "It's Broken and off the road" what else is wrong apart from the rear brakes and Tyres ?

I susoect the rear wheel cylinders bleed valve has rotted out....

This happened to me not to long ago
Got a brake fluid leak, and also failed mit
Similiar age too...

The fix isnt too bad, as it strip both units out and refit and bleed
The drums will want a clean and readjust and youll be good to go

Tyres are such an easy fix fail, why they werent done - i dont know why....

The tyres are pretty straightforward, I suspect they weren't done as they were getting another car anyway, but yea, don't understand why they couldn't have done it. But easily sorted anyway.

It's the brakes that I'm not sure how to go about. Working in a breaker yard taught me how to tear cars apart, not put them back together, so putting on new brakes is new to me. I don't have a photo of it, but when we looked at that brake before I knew it was the problem, I knew it was bad, so I suspect the whole thing needs to be replaced. The pads should be okay though.

What's the best way to go about finding exactly which part it is? And,
Where can I source them?

The prices for garages up here is extortionate as there are about 3 in a 20 miles radius, so anyway I can keep costs down is great.

Thanks for the help guys!

To get to Hand brake adjuster in side car, remove rear ashtray in centre console, remove Allen screw under ashtray ,and remove trim.10 mm spanner to adjust.
