Not for me this time but need to find out :)

Mate was in a WiFi enabled area, no security code needed but couldn't connect to the internet or use any apps that require WiFi

She said quote "A message came up about cookies"

But she's only got a PAYG sim in there at the moment but didn't think that made any difference as as home she has managed to connect to the net with the WiFi there

Help! It's my challenge for the day to find out

A wifi enabled area meaning a public hot spot?

The public wifi connections (i.e. offered by the government, or by some business such as McDonalds) often leave HTML cookies using their governing system for various reasons. I don't know if you can enable HTML cookies on an iPhone or not though, but if there was an error about cookies chances are they are turned OFF and need to be turned ON.

If the connection was public then it will probably require that you connect to the network first before it lets you use the wifi on the device (that's why she couldn't use the apps).

How to enable cookies on the iPhone

To enable cookies in Mobile Safari:

1. Go to the Home screen by pressing the Home button or by unlocking your phone.
2. Select the Settings icon.

6. Press the Home button to return the the iPhone home screen.
7. Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.
8. Before the cookie settings change will take effect, Safari must restart. To restart Safari press and hold the Home button (for around five seconds) until the iPhone display goes blank and the home screen appears.
9. Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.

If cookies are successfully enabled, the dialer registration and login will not generate an enable cookies warning.

iPhone bluetooth is switched to on - can't find devices? Previous phone just found the incar stuff - does it need anything special?

Thanks
