Hi, in need of advice. I have a 1995 Hymer powered by a 2.5 TD 8140.47. I have decided I would like to install new injectors as it has now completed about 100,000 miles. It emits white smoke for a while on starting (I do understand this is not unusual) I would like to improve this. I am also trying to deal with cold start problems which has developed into hot start also problematic. I purchased 3 injectors waiting for a 4th, only to be told that 3 different types were fitted in these engines. As I haven't any clue about what makes these work. If you change all 4 off them together, do you have to have the specific type that was fitted reinstalled. Or do they work or fit differently.
If so I would have to return the ones I have sourced until the old one's are stripped out and visible. This will no be an ideal situation for me ,not being able to search for parts before work begins.
Apologies for the long winded question just wanted to give some background.

No not necessarily. Engine not overheating or losing coolant. The main question I need answering is the situation with injector replacement.
Thanks for your thoughts.

You will need to fit the type that's fitted in the engine, you can get the numbers off them which can be usually read with them in situ. Your vehicle being an older one I'm not sure if it'll need coding or not, as mine (2015) needed coding. Just to be clear all four of your injectors will have the same 'part' number, but if they're the type that needs coding to engine, then they'll have another number on them too which is unique to each injector which needs coding to ecu and this tells ecu how to control it.
If there's 3 different types of injectors then the only way is to look to see if you can see numbers on them, failing that you'll need to remove them to match and be sure you get the correct ones, and all four will be the same from one of the three types.

Thanks very much that was the information I was looking for. Unfortunately what I was expecting but not what I wanted to here. There is no ECU on my van. It has mechanical fuel injection. I will look to return the injectors I have already bought until the old one's are properly identified.
Thanks again.
