intermitent inticator problems

hi, the indicators, and hazards, keep cutting out ramdomly on my 97 brava. one minute fine then nothing when try to pull out in front of a bus...! then next minute fine again.
v annoying, and garage says cant find out whats wrong cos they work for them.. (but that was under warrantee at a dodgy garage, gits!)

any similar probs? any ideas apart from the indicator relay which seems fine.?
