Just read an article on the BBC news website saying that a man who has had a car dumped in his driveway, blocking his garage, can't actually do anything about it as the car is taxed and not blocking a public right-of-way. Apparently he has to contact the council who will then....get this...put a notice on the car telling the driver to remove it within seven days. After that I believe the council can then forcibly remove it. Seven days!!!!! They're having a laugh!!!
Police also warned him that if he forcibly moves it, he'll face criminal damage charges. Jesus f*king Christ!!
What is up with this country???

So heres the good part though. If you're having a party at your house and don't have enough spaces for cars, all your guests can park on everybody elses drive ways and they can do f*k all about it!!! Nice.

right , thats it, im emigrating!!!!

What a load of boll*x!!!!!

My mate crashed his car the other day, rear ended, the tow truck charged £90 to move it fom one end of his road on to his driveway, then when the put it off the trailer, shunted the car up the driveway using the back bumper of the truck, writing off the front end of the car and gauging a hole in th driveway. **** all he can do about it according to the police because he invited them on to his property!

Oh and the car wasnt a write off after the accident, but after being shunted the insurers have declared total loss! - also nothing he can do about it! - thats one pissed off mate i have!

Someones taking the p*************

That seriously takes the p*ss. What is wrong with the law makers in this country?

No sense of reality I would guess. If some tw@t parked his car in my driveway, blocking my garage (not that I have either at the moment) I'd wait till night fall then break in and push the thing into the road. As long as theres no evidence there that connects the evil crime to me I don't see how they can prosecute. As long as I haven't informed the police already, surely they have nothing that points the finger.

Just a thought.

Re: Someones taking the p*************

surely there must be something to do with the car violating his parsonal property or something like that?

Hmmm...

You would've thought that tresspassing laws would've covered that although I think they only come into play when damage to the property has been done. But I don't see how it can be legal to park on someone else's driveway without their permission.

As for the other story with the car and the driveway being screwed up...if the police insist you can't be prosecuted as long as you're invited, does this mean that if a shop has a 'welcome' sign on the door, you can freely go in and smash the place up?

I think not.

parking probs

If it were me i would build a small wall across the driveway in front of the car ,afterall it is your property and has no right to park there ,the owner would of course have not to many choices how to get his car back ....hire a crane perhaps or pay you lots of cash to knock down your nice new wall and i mean lots of cash .if he chose to drive through it not only would he dammage his car he would leave evidence of this which you could persue through the small claims court .you can claim for as much as £5000. worth thinking about ?

Bring in Anarchy!

Nah, break the window of the offending car, cut yourself on the glass and claim against him for your injury. That how it normally works - if a burglar uses one of your ladders to climb through an upstairs window and the ladder breaks and he breaks his back, you are liable for his injury, surely something like this could work here?

Re: Bring in Anarchy!

The offending vehicle could be clamped & the owner could be charged whatever to remove the clamp

law

To coin a phrase "the law is an arse".

Here's another one - "An Englishmans home is his castle". Set fire to it and push it over the paraphits.

screwed country

this bit isnt related to cars but here goes:

i race downhill mountain biking. the bikes cost round about 4.5k with spares and tools etc. my garage was broken into last year and 10k of stuff was taken. two weeks later they find a chav riding it down the street. he answered no comment to all the questions, even saying "i know who i bought it off but im not telling you" it came to court last month with the result, him being let off on lack of evidence even though the judge SAID that he knew he was guilty. come on, he was found with a 5k bike in the shabbiest areas of Edinburgh, work it out from that!

this country sucks, at least in america youre allowed toprotect your property and family.

Blocking access

I haven't read the BBC article yet, but I had a tosser block my driveway about 6 years ago - I couldn't get up my drive to put my car in the garage (had a convertible at the time and didn't want to leave it on the roadside). So I called the police. Meanwhile the tosser turned up and tried to leave. I told him that the police were coming and that he wasn't going anywhere. So he smuggly sat in his car whilst I stood in front of it(so as not to let him knob off) and waited for the old bill to arrive. 45 mins later this 6'6" copper turned up. I explained what had happened and he had a word with the bloke. He then came back to me and said that the bloke said he was "sorry", and would I accept his apology or do I want to take it further. I said that because he had "f***ked up my night, I would like to f**k up his. The copper said "ok" and gave him a fixed penalty. Then just as the guy was driving off, I saw him throw his fag out the window. I asked the copper(who had his back to the car) if he would like to do him for littering aswell. He said "why?" I said that he's just thrown a fag on the floor. The copper ran upto the car as it was pulling off, opened the door and made him pick it up.
So as far as i'm concerned if you restrict access to a property not your own it is an offence and you should be punished for it.
Imagine if your car was in the garage and you had to rush your wife to hospital and some arse had parked up your drive!
Regards

update

Turns out that a family were told they could park on a friends drive as they were going off to Disneyland. They turned up in the early hours of the morning and parked on the wrong driveway!
