I have just spent an age on the phone trying to arrange insurance for my 500, just at the point of signing up when I was told the engine upgrade from 499cc to 594cc +5bhp!! added 10% to the quote as it was a modification.
Seems a bit excessive to me.

So I'm now back to shopping around.

I'm with Adrian Flux at the moment, their price for the next 12 months has gone up by £25, then another £15 on top for agreed value...

Richardson Hosken..I think my current premium is around £55.
I just phoned them to notify about the upgrade; they asked if I did the brakes too but I said (correctly I think) that it's more of a torque upgrade as top speed has a natural limit anyway. "Cool" was the exact response and no additional premium.:)

Just curious what is the 6 month or annual cost for a 500?, Peter you said 55 pounds, is that per month!!

Stuart, check what the renewal covers. I've just renewed with Adrian Flux this afternoon and when I first checked it looked as though the premium had increased by quite a lot this year but then I saw that they were including spare part cover + personal accident cover neither of which are required, so, after removing those two items my premium was a very satisfying £75.23. My cover is for only 1500 miles but I find mileage makes less difference than value insured and I've got quite a high agreed value, for which the premium is included. All in I'm a very happy fella (y) Of course my only modification is a wood rim steering wheel, not like you guys with bigger engines.

:D:D:D
Per year. These specalist insurers know that we hardly cover any mileage :D and are very careful and protective of our cars...so the premiums are usually very low.

I suppose it helps that I am quite old now:bang and that I have a clean licence and driving record.

Ok Here in Greece is around 200 euros per year, except if you are a club member and have a special discount through the club. For a regular car an insurance is around 440 euros per year.(n)

In the UK it varies but I guess it costs a lot of people about the same as Greece to insure an ordinary car.
Just from what I have seen on Greek Islands like Kerkyra, Lesvos and Kefalonia, there are a lot of damaged cars. So maybe there is a lot of basic, third party only insurance and they don't always get them repaired on bodywork. It seems the islands' roads have many damgers for reckless drivers but i would love to drive my 500 in Greece now the heater flap is sorted.:D

£75 including the £15 agreed value and the £15 set up fee. Wow. How did you get to agree a high agreed value. Last year AF would only agree the value I paid, even though I paid bargain money for a quick sale and the chap I brought it from had a previous agreed value a lot higher.

My premium is €355 per year on classic insurance, unfortunately as with many things in Ireland it ends up being cartel style.
High agreed valuation and 5000km per year but neither add much to the policy

Stuart, PM flying your way.

Thanks for the message Ian, will have to give them a call and see what they say, last year I insured the car for 4,000 miles but only managed 700 or so. Will reduce the miles and see what that does to the price.

I am with 'Footman James'. When we were about to moved house a couple of years ago, my (then) insurer dropped 'in the poo'--just 'forgot' to tell me that as Ann and I were going to be living on our narrow-boat between houses, they wouldn't cover me!? The car was in a locked garage, on private property, with security camera cover--even when told that, they still wouldn't cover me as 'I was living on a boat'--this was only 14 days before we moved--I was not amused!!
Footman James rescued me and sorted everything out. My policy is just over £200 per year--3,000 miles per year, agreed value (quite high due to modifications) guaranteed 'agreed value' re-imbursment if car written off, AND I get the car back. It has only gone over the £200 mark due to the Government's additional 'insurance tax'.

Try peter s taylor and co/ bishop calway, I found them to be the most competitive of all the usual suspects. Very friendly and helpful on the phone too.
