Hi all,

I have a 1.6 16v and was told by the garage that the cam key was sheared off inlet cam, also there is no valve damage at all!

It doesn't make sense to me! lol!

Why wouldn't there be any damage to the valves if the cam stopped spinning??

Thanks in advance.(y)

just because the woodruff key has sheered doesnt mean the cam wont spin... the sprocket is bolted to the cam and there will be enough friction there to spin the cam regardless if the woodruff key is there or not. if the cams spinning then as long as its lined up correctly you wont get valves and pistons touching.

ask them to see the offending part, if they can't show you, refuse to pay... sounds like a moneymaker to me.

it may not be a money maker but i've never heard of or seen woodruffs shearing unless the engine has been ran with out the retention bolt correctly fitted... id be asking questions as to what work this 'Garage' has been doing

just my 2p HTH

I did have the part and you could see it was completely broken off. The garage doing the work is a trusted guy of mine.

Replaced parts:
Reconditioned head
Timing belt kit
Head bolts and gasket kit
Camshafts
Pulley wheel
2 fuel injectors
Full service

All in all, i'm happy with the work done and still had an amazing deal out of it, but it just stumped me that there was no valve damage. Thanks for your views guys (y)
