Had a problem with my car for a couple of weeks now.
All of a sudden my revs seem to go between 1500-2000.. cleaned the ICV, and now it just bounces occasionally and sometimes drops to 500 revs.
Oh and the injector light is now on.. is it definately the ICV thats gone or something else?

What engine ??

Could be the lambda sensor playing up. That would also cause the revs to go up and down and the injector light to come on.

2ltr 20v

the lamba sensor has been replaced as it failed on the MOT, so may be the cause?

Just im getting mixed thoughts on what it is now.. ICV, throttle body..

I'd replace the ICV iiwy. Best place to start.
BTW - are you "Rosie" who posted as a newbie?

shaun, put it away fella, we need more members on here :p lol

Rosie, if you can get your hands on a new icv cheap (and not patent part either) try replacing that, failing that i would suggest getting a diagnostic done (if your in the se my mate has a garage and does them for a tenner, rather than fiats 1 hours labour plus vat!)

My Marea 155 did the same thing. With the car running, pull the pedal towards you until it hits the stop a few times and see if it makes the revs die down. After doing it a few times on my car the revs went down to 750rpm permanently and the warning light went out. Also with the engine off, push the pedal right to the floor and back up again so that it reaches its upper and lower limits. It appears that the throttle position changed for some reason but seems to be ok now. Hope this works for you.

If you was suffering from rev problems then cleaned the ICV and the problems changed or went better then it must be the ICV causing you the grief. Sometimes cleaning them can only do so much, so maybe its time for a new one.

Prior to the problems, did you have any work done to the car?

You've also got the throttle potentiometer that could be faulty, yours being a MK2, your car doesn't use a cable accelerator its fly by wire. But with lambda sensors they can be tested with a multimeter so no need to go out and buy a new one unless certain.

A diagnostic is always the best way to find the problem, but you've also got to remember that with diagnostics they aren't 100%. I.e Another sensor could foul another and cause it to read incorrect.

In answer to Shaun, even though there was no question.. Im happy to do work on my car. I would rather know alot about my car so when a problem does occur than i can sort it out myself OR if i cant do it/cant be assed to do it.. tell a mechanic to do it! lol

Beenson, I have pulled the pedal up and then the revs did die down. When a mate was looking at my car, he did push the accelerator pedal down when it wasnt running, so maybe that can be a problem? I will give it a go anyway, just to see if it works.. if not, at least its one solution out of the way.

Before this all happened, it was at least 2 weeks ago since i had a new exhaust fitted, and before that was my MOT, which they fitted a new Lamba sensor. After both of these, it has been running perfect.

Beenson! That's another new one lol. Not sure why mine did it either but it's been fine since I did that. It just has to learn the upper and lower limits of the pedal travel again I think. Let us know if it works!

lol whoops.. just saw that when i posted it! sorry!

I have just tried it and do no avail. :(

Hmm..when you pull it towards you, pull it quite hard and for a few seconds and see if that works. It took a little while for mine to do it. If that doesn't work then time to get a diag done :(
