I have an N reg Brava, 1.4 12v with 80K mileage. Had it for 2 years. Lately the little red injector light keeps coming on, usually when I am either going down, or up a long incline.

I have tried injector cleaner and super unleaded, as recommended on the help pages, but apart from making it a bit better, it hasn't fixed the fault.

Performance is down, getting about 220 miles on a full tank, and if I rev the engine it seems to reach a peak before making the horrible sound that I can only liken to the pit lane limiter noise you get in F1 if they exceed their revs. I don't seem to have any top end when it comes to performance.

I guess I'm asking for pointers, and the sort of jobs that I could do before taking my wallet in my hands and throwing myself on the mercy of the dealership for diagnosis and repair.

I wondered if the spark-plugs might be worth replacing, but I'm a bit daunted as it seems this is not so straightforward, being a bit inaccessible. Also, what size plug spanner would I need?

Finally, does this fault sound like something major, and what sort of cost should I budget if so?

Thanks

Take it to fiat, they will be able to diagnose the fault. The injector light indicates that the ECU has detected a fault with something and has recorded a fault code. Fiat can read the codes and tell you whats wrong.

Its most likely to be a dodgey sensor or some dodgey wiring.
