I bought a 2.4 JTD130 a few weeks ago. It was pulling like a train and very fast.
It's a 99 T reg with 133,000 miles on the clock.
The past few days I've noticed it has lost its oomph and the injector warning light comes on now and again, but goes off again fairly quickly. It feels like the turbo is no longer kicking in. I can still get decent acceleration but nothing like it was before. I have mixed a bottle of deisel injector cleaner with 3/4 tank of deisel, is this likely to sort it out, or is it looking like the MAF sensor is knackered?
Any advice much appreciated.
This is my first ever Fiat and I am surprisingly impressed with it.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure where the MAF is located exactly. I looked at the component image on this forum so I have an idea, but waiting on my service manual I bought from ebay. I'm not very mechanically minded.

Took it for a run today of over 100 miles and the injector light only came on a couple of times. Still not pulling like it should. I'm thinking the turbo has packed up. How can I check if the turbo is knackered?

Hello,

This will almost certainly be an issue with a sensor. It is very unlikely that your turbo will be knackered as they very rarely go wrong unless the car is starved of oil.

Try the MAF sensor thing and, if it is not that, then there are a couple of other sensors such as the MAP sensor which can become blocked with soot and the EGR valve which can stick sometimes. You can find how to deal with those in other threads within the Marea section. Also worth thinking about the throttle position sensor. If you press the accelerator pedal the engine response should be gradual through the travel of the pedal. If it is not and you are having to put your foot to the floor just to get the car to respond (as I was with mine until I replaced this part today), then you may need to look at the TPS.

Your best bet is to plug the car in to a diagnostic system and see what error messages are present. Clear them and drive the car. Plug the car in again and see what messages have returned.

I own a JTD130 myself and it is a superb car when it works which, unfortunately has not been that often lately. All of my recent problems have been related to faulty sensors.

I also own a JTD130 and have had both the MAF and TPS go within a very short time. You can get a fairly cheap MAF from ebay but the TPS is only available from Fiat and is heinously expensive (£440 approx) unless you get lucky like I did and find a second hand one (from Breakeryard.com in my case).

Good Luck

Ian
