hi all,

been driving around recently and hit a couple of pot holes. as a result my front two alloys both have flat spots and one is buckled a bit. anything i can do? i was thinking of writing to the road authority here and threatening them with court action.

p.s. alloy wheel refurb dude said they couldnt be fixed.

Council

You can try the council, but it will take you ages.
I went over a broken drain cover (not realsing it was broken of course) on a two lane stretch of road that was so narrow I had no choice but to go over it. It punctured both my left tyres - both completely flat within 30 seconds.
Pulled into a layby, and had to wait for a mate with another saxo so I could use his spare to get moving again. Happened to 3 other cars while I was waiting, wrote to the council (with names of others it happend to) and after 6 months they wrote back saying they would look into it. That was coming up to 3 years ago, I call and never get anywhere, write and get no response.
Eventually they wrote back and said they would need to inspect the old tyres, as they wouldnt pay for replacement of old tyres - obviously not got the tyres anymore, but could prove to them that the car was less than two weeks old and didn't need tyres as it was a brand new car!
Yet to get a response from that, but pretty much given up trying.
Point is, dont expect too much - but worth trying anyway - you might get somewhere.

Re: Council

Try to get some pictures of the potholes, with something in the picture to give it some scale.
Otherwise if you write to them they'll come round fill the holes and claim they were never there.

I went over a hole and both alloys on the left side had huge dents in them, tyres were fine but both went down as seal was broken. I was told to dump them also. I hit them both with a sledge hammer and got them both as close to the right shape as possible. That was 18 months ago and they have been fine since. They are kahn 17".

Potholes

How much do I like the council........NOT.

I have been driving round on Coupe alloys which are 16" until I hit a pothole. I then had to change back to my steel rims which are standard 14". Pi55 take or what due to raining.

Council have told me that they are looking into the matter. I have driven down that road recaintly and have found that they have filled in the hole in question. This doesn't matter to me due to putting in the complaint before the fill. HA HA....

Takes pictures of the holes and claim for the lot as mine is costing just short of £350.

I went down a pothole bout year ago now and it buckled my wheel irrepairably, my mom works for the council and she made the complaint for me within a month i had acheque for £172.11 and within two months the offending pothole had been fixed. so i think the council route should pay off bud. good luck

Re: Re: #@*&ing potholes

ive found out some wont pay if it hasnt been reported before u hit it. i would suggest that if there is a road that u rgularly drive down with large potholes on it u should write individual letters for each pothole with an accompanying photo. there is no way that they could fill them all in (especially borders council!). wanting some new alloys, drive into one at 70mph and send off ure claim, new alloys in post.

Re: Re: Re: #@*&ing potholes

I drove over a pothole with only 15s on at the time. I took it to a tyre fitter and they pointed me to a welder and they battered the bent alloy out and sorted it as i couldnt be bothered applying for comppensation as it took me 1 and a half years last time i claimed for something. I wasnt away to buy a brand new alloy since they were wrecked and I was getting new ones anyway 4 months later. Cost me £10 and £50 for a tyre

Oh...!
The most common prob here in Greece...
EVERY road has at least 100... No, no I'm not kidding... Thousands, millions of holes and high patches exist all over Greece... Even in national roads (highways)... No one can do anything about it...
But thank god there are places where you can get them fixed no matter how bad they are... So if these shops are here in Greece, they should definately be somewhere in the GB too...
Seems unthinkable not to...
