I recently watched a video clip on Youtube regarding the MODE operation on the van. I decided to have a go and noticed my details as follows.

SERVICE. 22135 Miles.

OIL. - - - - - Miles.

Does anyone know what the dashes signify, and can I reset the oil milage myself without much difficulty.

Thanks.

How old is your van. Oil changes on newer vehicles are at least every 2 years but otherwise on an assumed oil condition basis calculated by the ECU with regard to driving conditions and other parameters. The vehicle will display a Change Oil message if it determines that the oil is degraded and progressively restrict operation of the vehicle if ignored. The counter is reset through diagnostic equipment at each oil change. MultiECUScan can do that.

Hi, My van is a 2014 Ducato but it has had OIL changes at a Main Dealer, I just wondered that should there be a set of figures instead of the dashes and what the figures should be.

Have you tried both with ignition off and on? Is it Euro 5+ engine? If so, it will have the oil degradation counter. I haven't checked that menu on my van since I change the oil every 12 months regardless, but it may be a conscious decision not to display a mileage on vehicles with the degradation counter since the mileage to go won't decrease consistently, but vary according to the calculation derived from historic and current operating conditions at any given time.

Hi, Yeah I think it is the Euro 5 engine ???, it's 2.3 150bhp if that's the case then will I not have a set of figures were the dashes are. How can I confirm that it is a Euro 5 just to be sure.

If it is the new shape Ducato introduced in 2014 it will have a Euro 5+ engine. If you check the service schedule in your handbook, you will see that there is no schedule shown for oil changes in the time and mileage grid chart. Instead, the schedule states that "The actual interval for changing the oil and replacing the engine oil filter depends on the car usage conditions and is signalled by a warning light or message on the instrument panel and must never exceed 2 years".

In other words, it is recommended to change the oil and filter every 2 years at a minimum, but depending on the usage conditions of the vehicle, you may be notified to change them earlier.

In those circumstances, showing a mileage to the next oil change makes no sense, because it might show 10,000 miles one day. You could then drive another 5,000 miles to find it now showing 2,000 miles because of more severe operating conditions being encountered in the intervening period.

Extended oil change intervals (2 years) are OK for vans covering relatively high mileages, where they are in use for moderate to long journeys almost every day. For vehicles which spend a lot of time parked or on short journeys, which includes many motorhomes, it is better to change the oil and filter at least annually. Iveco, who share versions of these engines with Fiat, recommend annual oil and filter changes for vehicles travelling less than 20,000km (12,500 miles) a year. In those circumstances, you are unlikely to experience an oil change required message, so just stick to an annual oil change and don't worry what the dashboard may or may not be telling you.

You do need to reset the oil degradation counter though (with MultiEcuScan or similar) since it is cumulative. Unless you reset it at each oil change, you may eventually experience the vehicle telling you that you need to change the oil even though you may have just done so, and it will go into restricted power and then limp mode a short time later.

Hi, Although I bought the van in 2014 it was probably built in 2013. It has as I would call the " Tear Drop " head lights.

As per my post here,

https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/450430-x290-service-mileage-displays.html

my 2015 X/290 Euro5+ displayed values both for "Service" and "Oil Service". I would have expected values to appear in both items for all versions.

I disagree that it isn't sensible to show a value in the oil change field since, though it may not give you an actual mileage to the required change (as you say, increased oil degradation can/will make the value vary not in proportion to the mileage) it does give you a valuable reference to the potential point at which a change will be needed, without leaving it to the last minute before giving a warning message.
