Does anyone know the diameter of the pipe I need to get to replace the air intake tubing on my 1.6? Like the custom tube you made Tom? A shop near me has started stocking ali tubes with various kinks etc for the job, and they're 70mm

Cheers Tom. Actually looking at it I'll probably need to get tonnes of different adapters, shoulders etc if I were to do it, so probably get one to step down from 76 to 70mm (May work out pricier than I thought!)

Looking at the exsisting connections though:

The bit marked 'A', you've removed completely have you not? What is it, and can the car function fully without it?

Also, Where exactly does part 'B' lead? I'm gonna have to drill a hole for this and seal the rubber pipe in well I guess

a is a resinator box add mid range torque i believe... b is the old breather pipe.. u will nee to get a pipercross oil breather for it.. £15 i think

And connect the breather to the end of the small pipe? Meaning it doesn't need connecting to the main induction pipe?

The resonator box you can lose if you like
and just put a small filter on the end of the oil breather pipe and then your induction pipe conected to the main filter and your laughing.

You will say bye to a touch of midrange unfortunately. I keep meaning to do some experiments as I have a spare set of pipes half built to try and recover the midrange.

Different to my 1.6

Is that a 1.6?

Mines a late 2001 model, and the engine is exactly like the photo in the Haynes manual. You have a constant diameter to the throttle body, but mine narrows and rewidens just before the resonator box.

Re: Different to my 1.6

Yes it is a 1.6, but a 1998 model (mk1)

Well I went and did it, and removed the resonator while I was at it.
I have to say I do notice a drop in the mid-range torque, if your trying to accelerate up a hill or something it doesn't really have as much pull.
On the flat though, and with the momentum of pulling up throught the gears it doesn't seem to notice though.
Sounds a bit meatier than it used to too!

What is actually in the resonator though? Don't want to break mine open to find out! Maybe I'll cut a vertical slit in the pipe and reconnect it where it should go somehow.
