DIY Induction kit.
I wanted to start a thread on Cinq induction kits, there is already lots of info out there! But most is a little old now and a lot of things have changed.
GSR induction
So to begin with GSR would be the way, but as they are no longer available are options for decent induction kits are limited.
FOCUS induction Kit.
Looks like a good budget kit, but that metal tubing looks ideal for heat soak as we all know that's not good.
K and N.
Looks a no go from the start, once again already well covered and seems to be getting the same reviews. As it sits on top of the engine the only air that it will be sucking is warm and as we all know that's not good. Maybe OK for those who just want a little noise but if you are wanting to keep mod-ding your little beast then this is not the route.
Panel filter-UPRATED e.g. K and N.
Probably a good buy for those only wanting to add a few mods' but if your final aim is over 65/70 HP than probably will start restricting your other expensive mods.
DIY Induction kit!
Well this is where my thinking is at the moment, I've came up with a few ideas thanks to the brilliant post/threads already on FF and also by looking on ebay. As already covered the focus kit looks a good start I've also been looking at Civic 1.6 and type R kits(EBAY). These look interesting, one is very similar to the focus kit but with a plastic(K and N abot 100 notes) tube which maybe little better than the metal used on the Focus.
Another idea I thought of was using bits and bobs from the shops that sell Silicone hosing. Would be easiest to use a 90 Degree elbow, universal filter(BMC CDA or other enclosed item best) and the bob from a 899cc. My only doubts with this would be once a larger TB is fitted would the bob be restrictive? So I started to size up some hoses to be used with a larger TB rather than using the 899cc bob. My plan was to use 3 hoses starting with a 90 degree reducing elbow 76mm(fitting to TB) enlarging to 90mm, than cut a 1Metre 90mm hoses in half, using 1 half to join to the reducing elbow from TB and run along the back of the cam cover, this would then join to a 90 Degree elbow 90mm. Then I would use the other half of the 90mm tube(1/2 Metre) to run just behind the headlight where filter would be joined. This is only an idea so measurements have not been double checked/confirmed. My main worry is is there to many bends( I think every 90 degree adds 1 metre in induction length???)
Would really appreciate some feedback/thoughts on this, as said before this is all very new to me. I’m just at the beginning and there’s a lot of boys who are a lot more knowledgeable than my self
Kind regards and thanks for reading!
