I've decided its time for a new air filter!

It seems that the 1.6 has been left behind by the various filter manufacturers, only K&N make an induction kit for it and I don't think they are very good.

What has everyone else done to their 1.6's, what difference did it make and where did you get it from?

Ta!

Look at the Bravo guide bud or........

Measure the throttle body size and get a universal fit filter.

I think think the 1.6 throttle body is 71mm in diameter. A couple of us one the site have got universal Pipercross Vipers.

I quite fancied a Green Twister but I decied to go back to pipercross in the end as they are very good air filter.

Re: Re: Induction for 1.6

What did you do about the breather pipe that connects just infront of the throttle?

I've narrowed my choice to the PX700 Vector, the Green twister or the ITG Maxogen.

Re: Re: Re: Induction for 1.6

good choise the pipercross vector is a good filter a couple of the forum users have had that filter already.

I nearly got the Green Twister my self last week but a pipercross viper turned up very cheap so I bought the Pipercross Viper instead.

Greens are also top filters too. Be different go for the Green.

As for the oil breather. Alot of after market filters take into account the breather and leave a hole for it to go into on the new filter.

If there is no hole you can buy a seperate little oil breather filter. They are only about £15. Are you going to fit it your self?

You can see the breather and filter under my bonnet here.

Things have changed alot under my bonnet since I took this picture last year though!! hehe

Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction for 1.6

Thanks for the pic. I see you've butchered the existing tubing to make that filter fit.

The problem I can see with the Vector filter is getting enough cold air to it as its basically sitting above the exhaust there.

I'm swaying towards the twister.. really want to see inside one first though to make sure its got a nice smooth inlet mouth like the PX and the ITG.

Have you still got the coolant connections to your throttle body? As you are unlikely to get carb icing is there really a point of pre-heating the air in the manifold? ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction for 1.6

I haven't butchered any thing Tom. That pipe you can see is just a peice of the old standard induction/swirlpot system.

It was the pipe that went from the swirlpot to the to the air box.

As far as cold air goes if you get the vector.

Leave your old air box in position but take the old paper filter out of the air box that way you'll be getting plenty of cold air on to the filter.
