Hiya All,

last few days I have been fighting with this electrical gremlin in my '96 2.0 EL. Every so often, I get a clicking noise - same as for indicators (even seems to be coming from the same area - behing clocks), even tho indicators are not engaged and no lights come on! Otherwise everything else is working fine but it's just annoying.

Anyone has an idea where to look, please?

Any help appreciated. Thanks! in advance!

I am not sure on that model, lol. But someone else will know.

I get the same thing on my '96 Mondeo - a relay for the door indicator ticks constantly, so much so I have to turn off courtesy lights. I put it down to age of vehicle.

Fiat Ulysse 2.2JTD Eleganza, 53 plate, with options :D Angel Tuning [see ad] tuned ;)

I get the same on my '96 1.9TD EL. It seems to happen more in cold weather.

It is the indicator flasher unit. You need to remove the trim panel below the steering column to get at this, and then reach up and behind to wiggle the flasher relay unit out.

I got this far, but I haven't got round to buying a replacement part yet - I'm still living with the clicking.

seems like a common fault i have the exact same fault on my 1998 2.0 s
it is the indicator relay, i have put it do to me slighty knocking the stalk, and therefore the indicators are nether on nor of but i get the clicking normal stops by fully engaging indicators for a second. Prehaps this this the start of something bigger....[V]

Thank you all. Seems that the ticking has stopped (it may be as Cardiff says - down to cold weather). I'll keep an eye (ear actually) on it and if it comes back I'll get a new relay!

Anyone sorted this ticking noise?
Mine started doing it for a couple of days and now has stopped it did the same last year. Indicators work ok and don't come on when the ticking starts on it's own.

I had to "repair" my indicator stalk a few times with my old Ulysse for this same problem.
The issue was that after a lot of use the arm wasn't cengtering corectly and the xbrass that had worn away from the contacts would allow some current to flow causingthe relay to engage. I found I had to strip the stalk unit down (they're not cheap to replace) clean off all the worn brass and re-dress the contacts with a small file. Tighten the spings etc re-lubricate and re-assemble. Would then be fine for 18 months or so.

From an electronic point of view, check your inidcator relay and fuse is seated ok. It may be a weak connection, or your relay is probably shagged. They are only designed to last 12,000 clicks anyway.

Clicking starting to pee-me-off:mad: So took cover off and found the affending relay and just by touching it it clicks. made sure it's secure but still doing the same. Does seem worse when it's cold outside, and just now it's Baltic. The numbers on the relay are 2042103 and 73385. anyone know a good place to get hold of a relay?
Cheers.
