hi there
ive got a fiat bravo 1.9 td, recently its been giving me some starting problems. when i wait for the glow plug light to vanish and start engine it takes a quite alot of turns to start. any ideas on how to remedy this problem? or should i check something cos i dont want to waste a bucket load of money etc...
kind regards me

When was it last serviced chap?

not to sure as this was only bought last year but can u recommend what to look for or buy? should i do the normal oil, air & fuel filter change or change the heater/glow plugs? how much should all of this cost?
regards me

I'd recommend you get it serviced ASAP. These cars run very well when they are maintained well but unfortunately they are getting to the sort of value that makes people skimp in this area. If you don't know when it was last done I'd fork out for a full service if I were you. £120 should sort the lot if you pay someone to do it or about £60 - £80 for the parts if you do it yourself.

Ye OZ pretty mutch coverd all there, and i would also change the fuel filter and fill the new filter with a good diesle fuel system cleaner and screw it back on and start and rev it up keeping the revs high for a couple of mins.

um, if you do 'fill' the filter with diesel additive be prepared for ridiculously massive clouds of smoke for a few mins after you start. In factm i reckon it'll be enough to get the neighbours out of their houses.

Nay, just use the additive as directed and put it into a full fuel tank. You can get Forte on ebay for about £6 and imho its well worth it. Most of the stuff available off the shelf in Halfords (and even ASDA sell additives now!) are best left there. lol

As for servicing, if you've had it a year, and done nothing, then you can be sure it needs absolutely everything doing, unless it was done by the seller as an aid to selling. (I usually offer to service cars when i'm selling them)
Everything includes:
Oil and oil filter replaced
Air filter replaced
Fuel Filter replaced
Glow plugs replaced
Add Forte diesel treatment
Engine coolant replaced
Brake fluid replaced
Pollen filter (if fitted) replaced

Now coolant, brake fluid, pollen filters etc aren't going to be part of your problem, but they are probably overdue anyway.
If you need to do it a bit at a time, i'd look at the list above and do them in that order. ideally doing the first 4 things all at once, and then each of the others when you have the time/money

I'm not saying that a service will cure, for all i know your starter is knackered, or your battery is weak. But its a bloody good start. The prices quoted above are fairly accurate if your mechanic is quite cheap, so you may pay more. i doubt you'd get it done cheaper anyway.

Buz,the advice i gave was asper the instruction`s by the seller of a fuel system clenning liqued called ACP.

And also by a mechanic of over 10 years experience,so i did exactly what was recomended to me.

And there was (NO) black smoke what so ever.

Just check that the key code light does actually go out on the dash. If it doesn't, switch off and try again. One thing I've noticed on my Mums Punto and on my TD100 is that the code system doesn't locate the key (or so it seems). No biggie, just a case of turn the ignition and try again!

Worth a check anyway.
