trying to fix an ancient Dell PC for my uncle, but he likes it and i said i'd take a look.

when it starts up it says 'incompatible riser'

now when i've looked it up, it's either a network card or audio card, both of which i think are built into the board so im stumped.

any ideas?

if i cant get it going i have another computer which is a fair bit quicker, i'll make 2 broke computers outta 1.

cheers.

Take the side panel off and make sure the 'riser board' is seated properly. Basically its a splitter card that turnes one PCI slot into 4-5.

Do you know the exact model? I.E Optiplex GX 150

Yes they are easy but that comes at a cost of expandibility and flexibility and being locked into Dell for most replacement parts :bang:.

we've had dell for years, this one i'm working we got from my mothers work in 99 i think it was. we had one until 2 year ago and it never missed a beat.

while i've got this i'm going to use the bits off our old pc and some other parts i have lying about, improve the shocking 128mb ram and 4 gig HD lol.

lol good luck with that. Dell seem to vary massivly on reliability (just like Fiat funnily enough), some last years and years while other start to break after 10months .
