Hi folks. I've just bought a 20 year old Swift Kon-tiki 640/6 motor home based on a Fiat Ducato chassis with a 2.5TD engine, and I'm going to need some help. I've never owned a motor home before, much less a diesel, and I'm stunningly ignorant about both. Being of a practical nature, I've found my way around the cab and have fixed a few problems in the habitation area, but the engine is going to be a problem for me. Give me a petrol engine, and I'm fine, but diesel is a dark and smelly mystery to me.

First problem, and most important is the lack of power from this 96bhp engine, and poor fuel consumption. In the past, I would have lifted the head, penny topped the valves, and gas flowed and polished the inlet ports and combustion chambers, but have my doubts that a diesel engine would benefit from this. So anything anyone can tell me that might help me improve performance will be gratefully received.
