im new and need help

hi people, im new on here and need some advice, i currently own a mk2 punto 1.2 mia in black 2001 y reg, i am looking at getting (which i went to have a look at today) a mk2 v reg punto hgt which looks really nice on the pics but is a bit tatty up close in person, my husband took it for a test drive and came back and said there is a problem with the power steering, the light was on also was the CITY light and the steering was really heavy, it went back to normal when he stopped and started the car again . also the rear wash wiper isnt working, the lad who is selling the car said that is because the rear window is tinted.

HGTs are nice cars but that sounds like a gird!!
Punto experts will be able to tell you more than me.
But it would need to be mighty cheap for me by the sounds of things.

we are looking at doing a straight swop but there are a few other things wrong with it, like the steering, rear wash wiper, broken windowscreen seal, about 5 or so dents in the door and scuffs on the n/s wing mirror. only small stuff i know but money that would have to be spent straight away.

hi welcome to the forum. the steering will prob cost about £500 to fix as it may need a new column, rear wiper not working is nothing to do with the tint, i'd say the car hasn't been looked after

thats what i said, even though it is for a striaght swap, if i do i want him to sort the steering out at least, thanx for the help.

The rubber which im gathering is the rear window seal does indeed have to be split in order to tint a rear window properly, in order to gain access to the whole window. This is what happened to mine.

In that sense i believe the seller isnt trying on anything dodgy regarding the window and the rubber.

However the tinted window shouldnt be linked as a cause for the rear wiper to not work. I would guess at broken motor, or perhaps the wiper not working and the the power steering may be linked together as an electrical fault perhaps.

I would avoid it.

the power steering failure is common, and it costs a fortune to fix. let some other poor mug buy it.

thanks people, the problem with the windscreen is the front one and the seal is broken coz he has tried to fill it with sealant and its gone on the roof, i spoke to him late last night and he has booked it in at the garage for tomorrow to get things sorted, will see what happens, if he is that desperate to get rid he will sort it wont he.

Sorry to say it but i think you was in love with the car before you even had a look at it.

I think your'e starting to clutch at straws in the hope that it works out but i think you are going to get stung sadly if you go for this one.

Hi , Sorry to say it seems both very neglected and bodged. I wonder why he is selling it.
Why not just walk away from it, there are lots of cars around........

if you really want the car get the AA or RAC to give it a thorough check after the work has been done

hi welcome to the forum after reading about your situation i would walk away
it sounds like this car you are interested in has a very hard life and needs bags of money to put right
play the waiting game the right car will turn up for the right money good luck glenn

thanks everyone for all your advice,ive left well alone as hes keen to get rid of it but wont pay the money to have the work done properly,seen a few others and they HAVE been looked after.like you say the right car will come around for the right money!
