Hi,

My Lower Engine Cover uses this hex bolt to attach to the body. 1 out of the 3 is missing and I'm struggling to find the same replacement.
  • What's it called?
  • Is it the original bolt/screw type?
  • Where can I buy another?

Thanks

Try looking at 'self-tapping bolts' on line. You may not find an exact copy, but you will find a variety of sensible alternatives.

These have been used for various body fixings on many makes of car.
Different suppliers call them by different names, so her are the ones I can remember.

ACME thread screws
SEMS Screws
Spire Screws
Body Screws

Might be a long search, but good luck.

Unless your an absolute stickler for originality, you could probably use 'Tek' screws which are used on sheetmetal work and are widely available e.g. builders providers, home diy stores etc. I've seen then with 8 and 10mm hex heads.

If the screw in post#1 screws into a spring steel body clip iirc called a Spire clip (thanks to 'portland -bill' above, for the reminder) or a Speedclip, you'll likely need the correct screw with the squared off thread form.

You might check out www.bresco.com
They specialize in trim clips, fasteners etc for cars incl classics.

Looking under Mechanical Hardware --> Hex Bolts + Set screws , scroll down to: hex head Type 'E' Blunt Point screw 6.3mm x 25mm. This might/might not be suitable, iirc these screws if 8mm head are ~ 5mm thread diameter?

If it's an original Fiat screw there's usually a Grade no. or 'Fiat' stamped on the screw head (clean the dirt from the recess!!). There are companies in Germany, USA etc which specialize in parts for older Fiats including special fasteners but they tend to be expensive (imho) . The fastener companies which stock items for older cars tend to want to only sell in quantity e.g. a bag of 25. Best approach is probably to cannibalize another Fiat  for fasteners or befriend someone who has done so.
