Hi Dave.
Have looked at shop4parts site re timing tools and they seem to list kit for JTD at £70. Will this kit also suit the 1.4 petrol engine?
Up to now, I have always successfully changed timing belts myself, the last one being on a Mk2 1.2 Punto, using the old fashioned belt twist check. Have to admit that, although I feel competent to change the belt, I am a little hesitant in case I miss something important relative to more up-to-date engine technology. Car is 5 yrs old now, but with only 23K on clock, so am considering doing it due to age of vehicle.

I was in a similar position to you tipouno car had done slightly more miles but 5 years old, I was a mechanic up until early 80's and done many belts but felt daunted by this job especially since no crank TDC or camshaft pointer just relying on marks on belt, I eventually took it to a local garage specialising in Fiat's, cost me just over £200 inluding a new alternator belt.
