mean that the remote turn on lead on the origional fiat wiring loom behind the head unit is the orange wire?

No, thats the ignition input TO the head unit.

Remote is usually but I don't believe its wired up. There is a suitable output on the CD changer connector but the pin number escapes me.

Ok now im confused, let me explain why i ask.

Im not sure if the remote turn on lead from my head unit to the amp is working correctly, it is currently connected to the blue wire, as i was instructed and this is the way it has been wired up in my other cars, but this one will not work properly.

And from what the diagram is saying, i think the remote turn on lead for my amp should be wired to the orange wire behind the head unit??? Or not?

No, that wire goes live before the HU powers up. You don't want the amp to power up before the HU as you can get pops and thumps from the speakers.
