well i have an H reg fiat uno formula 90 as a project car im 15 btw oh and hello.

i wanna know what kinda stuff i can do to maybe spruce it up a little and no i aint talking the fast and the furious or max power ... i just mean nice - haha

i tried filling up the coolant for the radiator today i put about 2 litres of antifreeze in then about a litre of water .... it ran the engine for 5 mins and the temperature just kept going up and up :O:O so i stopped the engine and LOADS of water and anti freeze came spilling over me (any wasted £5 worth of antifreze gen?) someone said i may have an Air lock any help on how to solve this problem? cheers

bump !

well i drained the system
and i refilled it but its still getting hot ... the fan isnt spinning either ... what can i do??/
help please do i need a new radiator ... if i do .. how much will it cost :s

I think the Formula is the old 903cc pushrod engine... it's fairly solid and easy to work on.

Bleeding wise - there is likely to be a plastic screw in the top lefthand end of the radiator (opposite end to the top hose). Plus another in the return pipe from the heater matix - behind the carb: black plastic thing about the size of a 1 penny coin, maybe a bit thicker, with a grippy edge.

When bled OK, does the radiator get really hot all over when it overheats?
If not you may have the thermostat stuck shut.
This will also stop the hot water getting to the switch which operates the fan.

If the temperature goes up slowly to over 90 and the rad is hot, and the fan doesn't come on you may have a duff thermostatic switch: it's bolted into the rad - before you try bypassing the switch see if the fan will turn by hand.
If OK, unplug the electrical connector on the rad and bridge the two prongs with a hefty piece of wire.
If the fan runs the switch is shot.
If you get a shower of sparks and the fan doesn't go the fan is short circuit[:0] and it will probably have ruined the switch too.

If all the above is OK you may have a head gasket problem - FWIW the 903 is probably the easiest and cheapest to work on.
The complete FIAT gasket set was about 12 UKP the last time I did one, but that's probably 18 years ago now... but the head might need skimming if it's been well and truly kipperedB)

Let us all know how you get on.

Well done on getting an uno [8D] nice cars usualy heh.

If you want to mod it but still keep it nice ther best thing to do is just lower it and get some nice alloys.. maybe put a lip spoiler on the boot... nopthing bi and fancy but just one thast subtile but finishes the car
