I thought I had a misfire on cylinder no.2, but changing the coilpack made no difference, so I thought it might be a blocked injector. Went to get it checked today. The result was that I don't have a misfire! :)
However, I have absolutely no compression in cylinder no. 2, and poor compression in another cylinder. :( This means either a problem with valves, or a piston ring failure, or both! Likely repair costs are between £350 and £600. To top it off, I need new brakes too.

Possibly, but with a headgasket failure wouldn't you still get some compression? Apparently it's unusual to get no compression at all, but then I'm special (y)

You really have sh*t luck with coupe's don't you :D It's one of those though... I'm so far in, do I keep spending to see a light at the end of the (expensive) tunnel, or sell it cheap and cut my losses. Isn't it?!

I have managed about 2000 miles in the last 14 months of Coupe ownership. And I reckon that's cost me roughly £1 per mile

Coupe back now :D
£442 for labour and fixing the engine
£265 for parts for brakes.

I had the same symptoms on my engine which was running on 90k miles and I was lucky to find an engine with 30k on it. £800 and a lot of blood and sweat later, newish engine in car. Still to work up the enthusiasm to do a rebuild on the first engine, swop it back in and then sell it on for £801, making a tidy profit!!! ;)
