Well i put my car into a lamp post last night, cars a write off. i dont want to claim as i am 20 days from 2 years no claims. i havent informed my insurer yet, but should i. As i think i gunna have to pay for the lamp post to be fixed.

Do i tell them and get lamp post fixed, or do i not tell them and hope the lampost wont cost 2 much.

Lamp post was bent, falling over and the top poped off

thanks

lamp post depending on which one can cost quite a lot to repair

i was lucky when i wrote my car off i hit a tree, and not the signs that were a few metres on front of it because that could have been quite expensive :(

i would tell them and at least get it off your chest.

and if youve crashed, i think it will affect your ncb wether you have 1 yr or 2

Hi,

By law you should inform you insurance company (weather you are going to claim or not). If the police attended, then they will be passing your details on to the local authority and they will put a claim in to your insurance company for the cost of the lampost. Just so you are aware, the average cost of repplacing a lampost (depending on what type you hit) is around £5000.

Bad luck, hope you get it all sorted
Alan

I don't know but its a good enough excuse also blames liability on another car which no one can trace

well otherwise the concil just put a psot in to crash into which is danjerouse

I've dealt with a couple of claims where drivers have gone into local authority lamp posts or street furnature and was shocked at the cost they charged! £1600 for a re paint of where the car hit

Woah hold on there, I did exactly the same some few years ago, the lampost was £1500 and that was a double lampost. I ended up forking out for tow away and stroage, I just rang the council and told them I would pay given the circumstances. still costs alot but depends on the worth of the car and the need for NCD, I had only past my test 20 days and I write off my one owner AX GT. This was over 7 years ago, so I suppose a lampost would be slightly more now....
