Yeah... Saab is most likely the very best wintercar there is... but it´s to common here in Sweden even if they nowdays are "history"

Instead of heated seats I prefer to eat a lot of chili con carne.... farts like hell but it´s kind of cosy if you don´t mind the smell :eek:

I like you already...
I think you are going to fit in perfectly here.

:D

Hi guys,

I'm new in this forum. But as a fresh Fiat UnoFire 1989 999cc owner, having some issues with it, started to look around in the internet i stumbled on this forum.

I'm living in Estonia so its damn cold here (-30 C +.. on some mornings/nights), maybe not as much as in Sweden. My little Uno has started every morning. Some newer cars have had much more problems :).

Cant say it heats up inside (fitted a new thermostate, opening at 87 C). And my fuel consumption is way too high.

But glad to be in here. Lets hope the temps go up soon ;).

Welcome to the forum!

As I said, I had cardboard over my radiator in the cold snap, & up until yesterday it was still on there. I had to move it as I had it idling for 20 minutes while jump starting one of my other cars (because the radiator fan kept kicking in at around 2/3rd on the gauge), so I removed some of the cardboard to reduce the stress on my battery.

The weather is much warmer here now (around 5`C), but it still wasnt getting anywhere close to 1/2 way on the temp gauge with the fan side of the radiator covered in card!

I just checked the QH thermostat parts list, but they dont list a cold weather thermostat, only the standard 87 deg one.

I found this & I`m trying to do some cross refrencing to see if anyone does cold weater thermostats. I also want to find out if teres any options on the fan switch.

As you can see it fits many Fiat group cars to present, & he has been kind enough to give cross reference part numbers too.

I cant get on eper as usual, so I cant check if Fiat have different options for Scandinavian countries.

I`m going to disconnect my fan switch & fit a temporary seperate circuit with a switch by the dashboard to see what the temperature does when its perminantly off (I hope my gauge is accurate!).

My thermostate came with housing included. When i removed the old one I noticed a lot of brown rusty residue (i think previous owner had used water as coolant). My radiator is also partly covered with a piece of cardboard to keep it a bit warmer.

Sorry for some offtopic chatter

To be honest there's a lot to do with this car, i'm just waiting for the weather to get better/warmer cause my garage is not heated and its like -10C inside, when i close the doors.

I've read the forums and threads here about the high fuel consumption and i think there might be some issues with carb.

And interesting part is that i changed my airfilter and after 1000 km or so its pretty bad looking . Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, they do come with the housing, he`s used a standard thermostat picture.

It could be a carb or ignition issue, check the normal service items & timing, as well as the vacuum advance on the distributor.

How long are you having to leave the choke on for if its -30 & its not warming up though? also what is your idle speed when the choke is fully in?

Was the air filter just dirty or was it very oily?

Also is the short (5" or so) pipe between the exhaust & the front section of the air filter box still in place & is the flap above it opening as it should?

Yes, i'm gonna check a lot of things. About the choke, i need to keep it on for about 3-5 mins and i have to play with gas a bit to keep it running. And when i push the choke fully in (i mean open the valve?) it doesnt seem to be on very high revs if u meant that.

Pipe is still in place. And the air filter seems to be more like dirty not oily but i'm not sure about that. My mechanical skills are a bit low atm so i'm learning a lot with every problem i can solve on my own or with the help of others.

And sorry again for OFF TOPIC chat.
