how to switch stereo off with ignition

just got a sony gt25 stereo and fitted in my 2001 punto. along with tinkering around laying wiring to the back for speakers.

i've had a fair degree of success thus far. rear speakers are working and stereo works fine.

the only thing it doesnt do is switch off / on with the ignition. so anyone have any help with this at all.

most of the wiring i did was simply putting the fittings out the old factory unit straight into the adaptor supplied with the stereo i got.only thing i've physically played around with are wiring up the rear speakers straight into the adapters rear speaker wires.

any help would be appreciated

read that link but doesnt help any. my stereo works already. what i want it to do ideally is have it switch off soon as i switch off the ignition / take my key out. and ideally switch on soon as i put my key back in the ignition.

I did it and didnt like it as you cant have the radio on without the ignition so i have taken it off again now.

fit a switch with a live feed
switch off and its ignition
switch on its a live feed

That would work. I never thought of doing that. Hmmm a 3rd switch on my dash. :chin: I needed one more to make it symmetrical anyway.

doesnt have to be on show
you can tuck it away as most times you will be on ignition live
can even use a 3 way switch so you can kill the stereo fro when the cars in for servicing etc

I like to keep them all seperate. I already have 1 to turn on the split charge relay and one that kills the power to the head unit at the battery in the boot.
