Hey guys/gals

Like it says on the tin how do you use this I have some good ideas and want to use this stuff as its lightweigh.

So if you have any experience in this could you please help me by giving a step by step tutorial including

Materials
Stuff needed to make fireglas
The right mixtures
How to apply it
How to finish/paint/gloss up

Materials:

Fiberglass mat (usually 600g/sq metre, but 450 is better for fiddly stuff)
Gelcoat
Resin
Catalyst (pure natural peroxide)
Acetone for cleaning tools/spillages etc
Laminating brush
Paddle roller

I presume you'll be casting from a mould/pattern. In which case you'll need some release agent or other (freewax, maguires mirror glaze, ect)

Depends exactly what you are making. PM me if you need to know anything(y)

ive had a fair bit of experience with fibreglass in my motorbike build. but i mostly did ghetto freehand moulding which just compromised of creating the shape i wanted out of foam, covering with fibreglass / resin and getting a good finish with car body filler. this way you can get whatever shape you want, but the filler can be easily damaged if its too much of an intricate shape. if youre wanting to replicate something in fibreglass then the propper method (dominions method) is the way to go... but if your working from scratch then trial and error is the way to go. just have fun and don't oversaturate the fibreglass, because it'll become brittle.
