hi, so i have a fiat stilo 1.2 with a modified exhaust and thats about it, is there any good ways of making them faster and look nicer? thats not breaking the bank

Hi mate u shud consider buyin a k&n air filter replacement, it just fits and replaces into the original air filter no modifications no nothing, dnt waste your time and money on induction kits coz a faster car needs cold air intake and induction kits jus takes in warm air from the engine bay not making the car any faster reli jus improving sound, but with a replacement k&n air filter u wont need to change your air filter for another 100,000 miles either, u just clean it every 50,000 miles, its part of the k&n 100,000 miles warranty, picked mine up for my mk2b punto for about £38 allows more air intake into the engine and cos uve got an exhaust fitted like me, it will alow easier outer air flow, letting the engine breathe more, should see and feel an improvement in accelaration and petrol efficiency cos i definatly did!:slayer:

There are plenty of ways but it depends on your budget. How much of a budget do you have? Not breaking the bank is not quite accurate enough, because for all we know your a millionaire :).

Always remember, when your car breathes out more it needs to be able to breathe in more.

First thing I would suggest is to get a performance air filter.

Just remember that an induction kit is not always better than a performance panel filter. Induction kits tend to work better when they have a cold air feed and are enclosed.

"So to summarise, if you have a large engined car (or an engine with good low to mid range torque) fit an induction kit with a cold air feed. If you have a small engined car or one with little power in the lower rev band fit a direct replacement sports panel air filter."

The above is just a general rule.

well just name some of the thigns i could do and the prices then ill have a loom and then see what i could do :)

You could remap your Stilo. Not sure there would be that much point though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 1.2 is only 80bhp isn't it. That's assuming all your horses are alive and well. If you go for a remap, at a guess you'll be looking at an increase of about 3bhp, which wouldn't really do a whole hell of a lot for performance.
The Stilo is quite a heavy car for a 1.2 to lug around, so 3bhp probably isn't worth the effort or cost.

Just an opinion, mind (y)

hahaha naa **** that, ive already spend more then what i bought the car for fixing problem after problem :/

It's a Stilo - get used to it ;)

Actually that's unfair. Some members on here have had their's for years without issue. Mine was a pain, but I'd still have another one.

yea its unfair, its my first car, i passed a day before my 18th and on my 18th went out and got that, 2 weeks later a spark plug coil went, week after that the clutch went, did a new oil change, oil filter, just had the cambelt replaced and still things need to be done, the warning light is always on , but i have one more thing to fix but its a big one to just pay out at once, rocker cover gasket, for a 16v it takes for ever and its a new top for it

Search John Ashley exhausts on google :)

He did a Punto 1.2 16v 4-2-1 performance exhaust manifold. Same engine as the Stilo so it fits on fine, I've got one on my 1.2 Stilo :) it makes a good bit of difference as well, de-cat as well it pulls well through the gears an gives a much better top end without affecting the lower revs range. I'd highly recommend you get in touch with him.

Also if you don't carry many passengers often, you should remove your back seats and spare wheel if you're feeling brave lol I had my 1.2 running with that manifold and stripped out interior (well just back seats and spare wheel) and also hadlower profile tyres fitted to my 15" alloys ( has the effect of lowering he final drive ratio/ improving acceleration) and the thing was a wee bomber! Lol it would give 1.6 saxo vtr's and t-sport yaris's a run for their money :) Now I have 17" blades and full leather interior and connect nav etc I'm bak to being slow again lol

If you want you can do this; fit the Stilo 1.4 engine with correct engine mounts. 95bhp standard and I've read about people getting 115bhp out of them with induction kit and remap :)

Or...bolt up the Grande Punto T-Jet turbo setup to your Stilo and you'll have 175bhp to play with ;)

You could just buy an Abarth instead (someone had to say it :p)

Then you can get used to 24mpg and probably annual insurance that costs as much as the car :) happily for me in NZ, I'm getting 9.3L/100km (30mpg) and the insurance costs no more than for any other car (about $450/year - £230).

Obviously, there's a reason your Stilo was made as a 1.2 rather than a 2.4...

Well-said MEP and also I should point out that some days I'd like my Stilo to have a smaller engine - much easier to maintain, much cheaper to run. A big motor is nice but it's a mixed blessing.

FIAT did pretty well to get 80bhp out of a 1.2 as standard.

If I had a 1.2, I'd spend the money on modifying the suspension to go around corners faster. Maybe it's not as soft and floaty as the 2.4, but I bet there's room for improvement, especially as it's no longer new. Start by replacing any worn-out bits such as control arms and drop links?

Anyway, whatever you do, take care and enjoy your independence... :)
