i have an 1981 fiat spider 2000. . . . the ignition wire seems too get hot. . . .smoking somethings. . . . what up with that. . . i have own an fiat 128 one time . . .can't remember the year. . . . but it did the same thing. . . but not as bad. . . . . is this the right place to post this. . . new member. . . the red one

Sounds like either an overload on that circuit or possibly the ignition switch contacts being so worn with age that they are overheating and warming the cable up via conduction.

I would expose the switch and wires by removing the plastic steering column covers. The unwrap a good 6 inches / 15 cm of the electrical insulation tape that binds the wires together into a cable loom. Now you should be able to see and feel what is going on.

If the problem is caused by an overload than you will need a wiring diagram to find out what loads are on the circuit overheating. They could be disconnected one at a time. If with no loads the problem still occurs then you are probably looking at a chafed / damaged cable somewhere.
