My wife purchased a 500L Automatic Trekking, not so long ago, she has noticed that going down hill and after applying the brakes the engine runs at high revs all the way down the hill, not like her previous auto she had, is this normal? Also does hill assist come as standard? Or is it a simply a hand brake job. Thanks in advance.

Is it an automatic or automated manual gearbox ?

Never pull the hand brake while vehicle moving unless service brakes have failed, you can't reduce speed using gears and it is a last resort to stop vehicle

You got me on the first bit, I presume Automatic, it does have flappy paddles though, It does seem to rev high going down a hill using the brakes, what I mean about the handbrake is for example, sitting at a junction on a slope, you have to be pretty quick with the throttle to stop you rolling back, I hope this makes sense

I get what you saying about hand brake now.

From description of rolling back it is probably an automated manual.
Dualogic duologic . Does it have a park position on gear lever?
If it is one of those do not drive it like a traditional automatic that has a torque converter.

Yes absolutely your wife will have to get used to using hand brake correctly and selecting neutral at times stopped for more than a few seconds.

I wouldn't worry about higher revs going down hill unless revs more than 75% to red line-though I have no idea of that is normal for your car.

Thanks for the reply, There is no park on the gear knob.

Thanks, it just that the Auto Suzuki she last owned never did it.
If the alto had a traditional auto box ....it wouldn't do it.

If new car has automated manual gearbox ie a manual gearbox with a "robot" that performs the clutch actions and gear stick actions it may be programmed to perform engine braking down hill.

Find out if it is automated manual box.

If you bought from a dealer in my opinion they should have told you which type it is. They may not have done because the fiat dualogic does not have the best reputation for reliability.

No park position on shift lever is another clue it is likely dualogic.
