hi everybody
Now we officially a 2 fiat family now,son got a grande punto last year 2006,5#*ncap,so when we started looking at cars safety was the main concern, surprised ford ka,corsa saxo etc all 2 or 3*at best, so got daugherter a 2004 punto(4*) 1.2 active 8v,quick question well 2 actually, do all fiats have a immoblizer built in at factory,(trying to organise insurance etc) and what about abs, trolled around net and see some who list abs on 2004 and some who dont mention it at all, dealer i got the punto from is not too sure, esp as he sells the more expensive 7,000+£ cars, so i assume he taken it in part ex, and just wanted rid of it on forecourt,

anyway is there a way a middle aged(old)lol woman, dont know diddley squat bout cars can tell,
btw think this site guna be on my top five sites,so no doubt i will be annoying you all with useless questions l>will try to keep at aminimum
am waiting for the haynes manuel to arrive,so hopefully that may explain a few things, cheers enm4:)

Hey Em,
First of all, welcome to the Forum! :)

As for your questions... I have a Grande Punto 07 reg (series 1) 1.2 8v active and as far as I know they come stock with ABS, Im not too sure about the 2004 Punto.

This website should be able to give you all the relevant information for the 2004 and the Grande Punto.
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/find-a-car/

I know that the Grande Punto have an imobiliser factory fitted and no alarm. I would guess the 2004 would be the same.

Im sure you will be able to find your answers with a quick search on the forum

Cheers
Tom

cambelt & water pump

thanks tom,
just been going through the dealers service record, turns out the cambelt wasnt done when it was supposed to,also looks like the abs it claimed to have on their advert doesn't exist, bummer, been out of the car buying lark for 10 to 15 years(hyundais),so i finding out the hard way, dealer coming back to me with a quote for cambelt, but says waterpump normally gets done at the same time, is this right or are his eyes lighting up with the prospect of a nice little earner
thanks to all

Re: cambelt & water pump

welcome.
all fiats since about 1995 have an immobilizer built in at factory and also are galvanised so don't rust like a Ka so you made a good choice

alot of people replace water pump at the same time, they are only £30 and a few bolts to replace whilst the belt is off anyway, so whole bill should be no more than £150 for an 8v mk2b punto

thanks dave,
really peeved about the abs spent ages looking for a reasonable safe little car for my youngest, may be a silly question but could it get fitted now, and is it recommended, my"little-un" getting used to it now, she was learning in her brothers grande punto (main thing now is i dont have kittens every time she is behind the wheel of his, lol)
i no doubt will be back with more silly questions, how did people manage before forums & google etc etc

Re: cambelt & water pump

well dave you were right on the button £150 inc waterpump&cambelt,
(regarding abs prob just me being a paranoid parent, after all its no guarantee it would be a life saver in a smash),getting work done monday, hope that is the last bill for a bit,i have read some horror stories about fiats both here and out in the www>but have been impressed with sons gp he had it 18 months now,he had his cam done local cost £250,better not tell him how much i paying i presume would be similar price,
our new addition is less than a week old, so watch this space;/
