Hi

After a few weeks looking at the Golf gtd mk6 I went and bought a fiat bravo 2.0 165 with 45000 full service history 59 plate for less then half the price of the golf:slayer:. After a 200 mile drive I'm very happy with the car, it has most of the toys and is in great condition.

I honestly didn't do much research on fiat bravos so I have a few question,

The gear stick is very stiff, it goes in all gear but is stiff(1st and 2nd are the worse), on my old polo tdi it would get stiff in winter and the mechanic would spray some w40 and all good, can i assume the same with the bravo?, the mileage and age would make a faulty gearbox or clutch unlikely I think.

Flicking through the car many menu I found Ecomode ,I assume it help with economy but how?

How do you end a call with blue and me? i tried everything I can think of.

the car is now 5 year old with 45000 miles, the manual state that the cam-belt should be changed at 5 year or 90000 miles, how much should I expect to pay for this(when I had vw I would go to vw specialist and I would get charged around 500 pound)?

also planning for hid light conversion(around 5000k) any good brand in mind?

Most importantly this is my first fiat so i really don't have a clue on were to take it for future repairs, any suggestions around southeast london or southend(essex)?

thanks guys

Welcome to the club.

I too have just got myself a white 59 plate 165 sport and like you didn't really research the Bravo too much.

With the Blue and Me, to end a call you simply hold down the handset button on the steering wheel for a few seconds.

Regarding the cambelt, mine was done recently by the previous owner, but I would put aside about £300 - £350 for the job and also have the water pump done at the same time as this has to be removed to reach the cambelt anyway so good practice to replace that too.

1st and 2nd gears are a bit sticky for me too but then again my wife's old Punto was the same.

Regarding the HID kit, I've heard that Hawk are the best to go for.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

If going for the service with the timingbelt expect about £650 to £750 as this was what i was quoted ( never paid as their mistake long long story). Watch for wiring faults, rear calipers and handbrake. Oh my vacum pump has gone so watch out when breaking as well gooing to cost £300 to change at local Fiat dealer.

Shame there isn't a haynes manual that covers the belt change although as its the same engine as in the new astra, I'm sure it won't be far different in terms of "how to"

Hi thanks for the answers, the last service was done in November so I will probably go for the cam belt and water pump, I'll give a ring to my local fiat dealership sometime they match prices,I will try to find a solution for the gear been sticky simply because is hard to get in to 2nd gear, My polo gt had the same symptom so hopefully is something similar.

The car is really great I'm very surprised, and is full of kit.Only problem is to keep clean:D

Welcome! I myself have a 165... well 209 now ;) and i love it.. regarding the sticky gears.. spray some wd40 on the ball joints and rods behinf the battery under the bonnet then give it a wiggle if that fails check under the leather gear nob cover to check nothing is stuck.. all else fails its the gear box apart job

Hi thanks for the reply.

I got the car booked for the cambelt the cost was surprisingly low compared to my previous car.i was thinking on getting the hid but I just saw an advert online on the philips whitevision h1 bulb.it seams that the bulb are legal and the colour temp is 4300k which is quite good.has anyone tried them?with Hid is a pain to match the sidelight and the fog light.

The factory HID doesn't have matching temp with the fog lamps either.

I'm very skeptical regarding halogen bulbs pretending to be as good as xenon, they need to run very hot to output that kind of light and that might melt your headlights or worse.

I have the Phillips white vision bulbs. The are alright, defo brighter and white than the bulbs already in. They are not even close to been as bright as a HID kit though.

Hi thanks I think I'll go for the hid and try and fit some Led on the sidelight and fog light.
Any way yesterday I lost all power on the motorway(limp mode) I pulled over turn off and on the car and it was fine but the engine light has come on . anyone have any suggestions? The car feels fine but mpg is lower then I expect, I'm getting 41 average, and I do mostly motorways and 20mn traffic before work. Also power do doesn't seam great, could it be the egr valve? Is it common on this car for the egr to play up?

Thanks

Hi

Small update I went out today with the bravo and I can't fault it, rev is stable, no funny noises,no smoke stationary(when pressing hard there is a bit of white smoke), hopefully is some small sensor gone bad, is booked for Monday hopefully nothing serious, I suspect egr or maf sensor but the car seam to be running well so not sure, any ideas?
