Hi,
I really would be grateful if someone could offer some idea of what could be wrong with my little punt. I admit, i am useless when it comes to mechanic issues although I will do my research as and when necessary but i don't know what to look for...
I have a 1.2 8v Punto '06 and when I turn the ignition, the engine starts and after about 5-6 seconds it stars 'coughing' and judders. There is a loud rattling from underneath, which makes me think it might be something to do with the exhaust, but I don't know. When i put it into gear and attempt to move, it just won't have it and it's like the car is being strangled and eventually the engine stops.
This literally only started this evening.
The car has less than 51k miles (not sure if this is relevant)
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Lou x

Engine Stumbles
No power
Stalls easily
Shaking the exhaust

Sounds like your car is misfiring
What sort of work has been done
Ie when was the last time it was serviced
When was the plugs last changed
When were the HT leads changed

Is the EML (engine management light) on?

Possible causes
Broken down spark plugs
Leaking (Arcing out) Ht' lead / High resistance leads
Coil Pack failure
ECU driver failure
Crank Sensor starting to fail

Some further investigation is required

Hi Ziggy, thanks for replying. the car was serviced in late March - I have only had it for 6 weeks but the service book is all up to date and shows the latest service as then. just before i bought it, the guy at the garage said he thought he needed to replace the coils but then said it was just some leads, which he replaced before just prior to me collecting the car.

No EML comes on.

I will call the garage that i bought it from in the morning as I hope to be covered by their warranty.

Thanks,
Lou x

Thanks for the heads up and advice guys, much appreciated. Now I can at least sound like I have some idea of what it could be when I go to the garage, instead of sounding like a complete dunderhead (which I undeniably am:confused:)

You not gping to likely cross thread when removing unless person before has
Its whenn fitting them u are likely todo that
Some people likw the garden hose trick
Me peraonally I prefer clean threads a super small dib of antiseize and just the extension bar untill its seated and to ratchet it up

See the guides section for mk2/2 b I did a basic guide there
