Hello everyone, registered on here finally after owning my '07 Bravo 1.9 Mjet 120 for 5 months. :D

And now this is not going to be the nicest newbie message as my aforementioned car has just decided to eject it's timing belt through the casing. :(

After 3 months of owning the car I had the timing belt changed with pullies/tensioner. 2 months after this it turns out the water pump has seized causing the above. I've since read this can happen on 16v engines, but I can assure you all mine is an 8v. For anyone else thinking they are safe without getting the water pump changed, I'd think twice! My car has only done 55K miles and is just 4 years old.

One valve is stuck and 2 more seem a bit dodge, and as I'm trying to repair this myself I can safely say getting the head off is not as easy as it was on my old '96 bravo!

Anyway hello again, if anyone has any good pointers please feel free to let me know :)

Hi keifos and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your problems and I hope you get it sorted OK. Because your car is still relatively new the guides section in the Bravo forum are still quite sparse, but hopefully this engine will have been fitted to an earlier model or even a different model Fiat so you might get some joy by looking in those.

If not, just start a new thread in the Bravo (2007 onwards) section and ask for some pointers in there. (y)

Thanks for the info.

I downloaded the eLearn guide uploaded by Davren recently, who I would like to say a massive thanks to.

The engine has now been rebuilt. 3 valves were damaged in the end, including the followers. Along with the timing belt, pullies/tensioners, water pump, a new head gasket, and 2 shims the whole lot came to £480 without labour costs, but I know I very cheap mechanic, thank you so much Jim!

Just found out from the CAB that as I bought the car from a dealership, even though it is out of warranty, I may still be covered by the sale of goods act as this failure is not typical of a car of this mileage and age. Hopefully I will be able to get the parts paid for. Will let you know how I get on...
