I have a fiat punto 1.2 2001 reg.It has a heating problem when on tickover the heater does not throw any heat out, rev it a little and it does!
I have looked through other threads this morning and fround some help.It would appear that it has an air lock, as there is no water on the dipstick and no oil in the water it hopefully isnt the head gasket. From the thread I read this morning it says there is bleading nipple above the radiator ,I have also found one on the heater hose behind the engine. I have tried to bleed these but Im not sure how I should be doing it. Should I be running the engine, should it be hot or cold, should I be putting water in the top up tank as steam or water comes out of the bleed nipple?
Im sorry Iv been so long winded about the question but I do need to have the answer as simply as possible as Im not a mechanic but Im not rich niether!

right it could be one of 2 things(well likely things)
a worn water pump which isnt moving enough water at idle or as you said an airlock.
TBH if it goes hot on reving i would say waterpump but a good bleed is free ;)
now for me i would start the negine from cold/cool with the bleed screw open and the expansion lid off.then allow the water to run round and check for bubblers and water coming out till its a steady stream.once it just water and the car is heated up you can screw everything down.
a light rev as well helps to get the water moving.
as i said thats just my way and someone may have the 'proper' routine

Custard said it all there really so that just leaves me to say WELCOME (y)

Dont start engine; (puntos prefer to be switched off)

Fill water tank to top,
Open radiator bleed screw until water pours out easily for 10 seconds,
Top up water tank again,
Open bleed valve in water house going to bulkhead,10 seconds,
Start car for 5 minutes, top up water tank to correct level if required,
Switch off & replace water tank cap,
Start car & wait until fan cuts in,
Switch off & allow to cool (sounds like baking a cake!) then recheck level.

If you hear a gurgling at start up from underdash passenger side repeat but raise front of car as much as you can on ramps etc.If you still hear gurgling you will probably require a modification to the cooling system.

Success!! Thanks custard boy. I did what you said, about doing the bleeding from cold and now my wife has a nice warm car.
Thank you also T14086 but I had already done it custards way,but I will bear in mind what you have said if ever it comes back.
Thank you also to PNL for the warm welcome I shall pop back often
Thanks again guys
