Hi all, any idea why the turbo light comes on?

Hi all, I have a 1.7td 1994 and at aprox 3000-4000 revs (depending on what gear you are in) the turbo light on the dash comes on.it goes off if you take your foot of the pedal and glows brighter if you go quicker, perfomance does not appear to be droping any ideas?
