Hi all,

I'm going to be servicing the HGT (mk2) this weekend and wondered if anyone knew (before the parts are in my hand) what the sump plug washer is made from? Copper? Nylon?

Also does anyone know the torque setting for it? I expected all the bravo range to be similar but after seeing the 1.6 and 1.8 had very different torque settings in the haynes manual, I'm worried about over/under tightening it.

AND.. I did a quick search (http://www.network54.com/Forum/15639/thread/1142894960/) and it looks like (the mk1 at least) uses a 8 or 10mm allen key. Can anyone confirm this is the same for the mk2 HGT, or should I have a torx set handy too?

Cheers,

Dan

Its a copper washer. Regarding the torque setting i've never bothered, but obviously thats not the answer you want. The sump plug i thought was the same on all models. I've checked the porter manual and it doesn't state a torque setting for the sump plug. Try those fiat manuals on babermalik's site.

i've never used a torque wrench either. put it on till its tight, but not ridiculously tight. If you are using 2 hands to tighten it, you might wanna think about staying off the caffeine for a while.
The whole point of the copper washer is that when you tighten the plug, it gets crushed a little (hence using soft copper as a washer) and thus makes a good seal. Overtighten it mind you, and the washer wont crush anymore. Then theres discussions about heating and rapidly cooling the washer to make it re-usable... lol

just use common sense and you'll get the tighness correct

your correct it is a 8 or 10mm fitting, be careful because mine was dead tight and didnt think it was going to budge....as for the filter i didnt change this on my first oil change as its a bastard to get to, you will need to take the undertray off for easy access.

and finally good luck :)

Thanks for the info guys. Think thats all the bases covered. Just been reading the fiat forum and there is a bit more about it but it's not sounding as easy as I was hoping :)

Cheers,

Its very very important that you change your oil filter as well as the oil. Its quite a waste not doing so. Would you wash your clothes and then throw wet muddy trainers into the tumble dryer with them afterwards? Me neither.

Bl**dy hell that was hard work :)

Sump plug came off nice and easily. Oil out and then on to the filter. I can't believe how hard it is to get the filter off. Now I know how it's done it should be loads easier next time, but I must have spent 90 minutes with both a strap wrench and a chain wrench trying to get at it. 5 litres of fresh oil in and it's happy.

Doesn't look like the mk2 HGT has an inline fuel filter either. There was nothing behind the panel normall covering it. The haynes mentions the mk2 1.6 and all 1.2 litre engines have no in-line fuel filter (its next to the fuel pump/sender unit instead and doesn't need routine servicing) so I can only assume the mk2 HGT doesn't either.

Pollen filter was EASY! hehe

Sorry Joske I didn't :)

I will be attempting it very soon, but its a BMC CDA and Angel Tuning (who fitted it) said it was a nightmare to get in there so I'm not looking forward to getting it out.

Maybe next weekend ;)
