Where Do I Start! I Have A Fiat Seicento Sporting 2001 MODEL WITH A 1991 UNO TURBO ENGINE IN IT AROUND A YEAR AGO WHEN THE ENGINE GOT PUT IT ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THAT I TRIED STARTING IT 1 DAY AND IT WOULDENT START I FOUND OUT IT AD NO SPARK AND I LEFT IT IN MY GARAGE(BUT BEFORE THAT IT WAS RUNNING LIKE A DREAM),ANYWAY ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I DECIDED TO GET IT GOING SO I GOT MY MATE TO WIRE THE ENGINE UP AGAIN FROM SCRATCH BECOUSE THE SPARK PROBLEM WAS A WIREING FAULT,ANYWAY IT IS NOW RUNNING BUT LUMPY,I HAVE CHANGED,PLUGS,LEADS,DIZYCAP,CRANKSHAFT SENSOR,TEMP SENSOR WHAT GOES TO THURMASTAT,I HAVE DONT A COMPRETION TEST THAT IS FINE,TIMING IS SPOT ON, WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD IT WONT START BY THE KEY,BUT WHEN U BUMP START IT AFTER RUNNING FOR 5 MINUTES IT WILL START EVERYTIME WITH THE KEY,BUT WHEN IT GOES COLD AGAIN IT WONT START,BUT IT SMELLS LIKE IT IS RUNNING REALLY RICH AND THE SPARK PLUGS ARE BLACK,ANY IDIAS ITS DOIN MY HEAD IN NOW! CHEERS MIKE.

Welcome here Mike!!

Think it may be more than one thing!

Have you tried replacing the supplementary air valve? This lets more air into the plenum chamber under cold condition. Not sure this alone would prevent the car starting, but could make it run very lumpy when cold if faulty.

Have a picture of one here; it bolts to the front of the head (or usually dangles near by).

Any pictures of the Sei? Did you need to cut much off the inner wings? My better half runs a Vad 1242 Turbo Seicento which is a really fun drive.

HI mate, that valve thing i dont even think it as one of them, are you sure the mark 2's have them? it used to run like a dream its only done 700 miles it ad a full engine rebuild before it went in everything is brand new exept the airflow meter and the sensors,i seem to think it is the airflow meeter but i dont want to pay £290 for one if it isnt the problem,i went to fiat and they quoted me £600 for one but i got a cheeper price from another place! it does start aventually from cold but it takes a good 5-10 min by that time the battery is almost flat!lol,i think its summet to do with the petrol but i just cant put my finger on what it is its doin my head in! i have a photo mate but its not of the engine i can get some tomorrow and i will put them on here,al post this one what i have from the front.

(the light does fit its only out because the dizzy cap is under it) and u cant get to it without taking it out.

Loving that install!!

Did you need to cut the inner wings or anything back to make way?

Yer You seem to have the supplementary air valve missing mate. This is where it should go

Air valve.jpg

On cold the valve is open and allows air to bypass the throttle body – kind of like a choke. As the car warms up the valve closes, stopping any air not passing the throttle bodie's butterfly valve. It looks like you have the top right of the plenum chamber open to air, which will let extra (un metered) air into the system.

I’m under the impression that allowing un metered (extra) air into the system is one thing which makes the ECU shut down the engine. Try blocking if off if it is open.

I see you have found your way to Turbo Collective too :). Don’t pay them prices for an AFM!! Don’t even pay red mist racing’s price!!!! You should find one around the £50 mark!! I sold mine for less. You will need one from a Non cat engine ;) – that is if you need one at all.

Where are you from Mick?

is tht mark 2 turbo air flow meter on it???looks like in the pic the pipe not connected.
Oh yer I missed that - the AFM it seems to be mounted up side down, with no air filter

If you did 700 miles with no air filter, the AFM may be caked up with crap, and the flap no longer able to swing in the breeze to measure air flow, causing an over fuel. the flap inside it should be bouncy to press, and spring back shut.

Also the Turbo may have got debris on the turbine, which will kill it very quick (n).

Hope you'd just had the filter off for the re-wire (y).

am from huddersfield mate, west yorkshire,u? yea the air filter was took off just till its sorted it asnt been drove with the filter off,and that flap in the airflow meter closes and opens ok when u rev it,that pipe on the inlet manifold is blocked off and it did run perfect before when it was cold before, but it seems to be running really rich the spark plugs are black, sutty! didnt haveto cut the inner wings mate, before it went in the engine bay got seam welded, then the uno engine mounts got welded in then the gearbox mounts got made, then driveshafts got made, with uno hubs,it was running at 140 bhp at the wheels! its running at around 20bhp now lol! do u have any more idias,as anyone else ad any problems with airflow meters?

sounds like u got either air leak,or over fueling probs, had same prob with mine, turned out to be intercooler holed.is tht mark 2 turbo air flow meter on it???looks like in the pic the pipe not connected.

yes mate it is the mk2 air flow meter, what do u mean by intercooler holed? cheers mike.

damaged,if it ran fine b4,must be something simple, check all ure pipes, other than tht sounds like its over fueling

it is over fueling mate, big time the spark plugs are black! sutty black??
