Hello something silly I hope. My partner took the rear seats out of our y reg omulti the other day but them seem to have locked (?) Front clips are shut and can't work out how to open them to get them to lock in. We've only had the car a few months and I'm sure he took them out, and put them back quite easily when we first got it. So confused and he's now resorted to having the seats laid down in back unusable. Any help would be very much appreciated x

OK.
Your front hook locks will be in this state...

Simply grab the two bars at the front and squeeze them together...

This opens the hooks (A), and the sprung-loaded latch (B) should keep them in the open position.

Now you slip the slots over the bars in the floor (front end first, seat base tilted near-upright) and push down, the hooks should release and lock on.
Then simply drop the back end down and the rear hooks will latch.

A little WD40 on all the moving parts will help everything stay in working order.

Edit; If for some reason the hooks don't stay latched open (broken spring, or seized latch for example), you'll just need to hold the two bars together while you slip the slots over the bars in the floor.

Stand the seat up on the car floor so that the front of the seat base cushion is pointing downwards. Look at the bottom of the seat base, near the floor - grasp the 2 round metal bars and squeeze them towards each other. This will open the 2 clips so that you can lower them onto the front-most metal bars set into the floor.

If you want more legroom/less boot space, choose the next pair of bars back (in the floor). When you push the seat base back down to the horizontal, make sure you push it pretty firmly and hear the 'clunk' of the rear clips going fully home.

Edit: BD beat me too it, and with pictures too!

I was expecting someone to beat me to it, in the time it took me to go out, take the pics, get back, edit them, put them on PhotoBucket and then finish the post. ;)

You know, we tend to take it for granted nowadays, that we can ask a question on here (or any other forum), and it's usually answered in a matter of hours (or quite often minutes!).
If you're really unlucky, it might take a day or so.

Those of us 'of a certain age' will remember you had to write off to a car magazine if you had a problem, before the internet, and wait weeks/months, if you even got an answer!

Thank you both, I have sent him out there now with you instructions fingers crossed :)

It worked, looks like we have a broken spring. Thank you so so much. We can all go out in the bug again yay :)

. . . looks like we have a broken spring . . .
On one of the latches?
Quite common I suspect, only one of my three seats has a spring at both ends.
They're not very well secured, they simply hook into the open slot on the pivot.

Even if both springs are broken/missing, it doesn't affect the security of the hooks, it just means you have to hold the bars together while you're fitting the seats.
