Hi all newbie needing help i have a 51 plate fiat seicento sx on lowered shocks and springs but the problem is the garage changes the drivers side track rod end when fitting shocks as said needed replacing all went well and everything changed over then i pick my car up and notice the stearing wheel out with wheels so took it back and they say tracking needs doing but they do not do tracking so took to a place what do tracking but the mechanic i spoken to could not put it straight and did not no what had been done to make stearing so far out and said may be a option in replacing the tie rod and track rod ends on both sides to start again to see if it will become straight again but im wondering if there is any other option or method to fix this please and sorry if it sounds a daft question

Hi adamj33! When they were messing around with the T.R.ends could be a possibility it may have affected the camber of your wheels out of the original alignment? If not that then it may possibly be a rack issue? I only say that because I had a similar experience with my Mk2 Punto it's got coilovers, because the shocks had an enlarged hole where they bolt to the back of wheels hub there was some play in the camber, so when I went over a bump in the road it knocked out the tracking making the steering wheel go at 10 to 4 instead of the quarter to 3 position it usually was. Once the camber was set back to the original position then my steering was ok.

Also how bad is the steering? Usually if tracking has been done not all 'specialists' set the steering bang on usually because they want to get through the queue they have so its off just a touch and requires minor tweaking, but I'll assume your guy was ok. Get the wheel camber checked by your mechanic if you can before shelling out for a new rack or tie rods, ideally though yes tie rods should be changed in pairs.

Btw just so you know you need to post all your car related issues in the right section, so this should ideally go in the Seicento section of the forum. Maybe cut and re paste this in that section and you may get more detailed responses to your issue (y)
