After 4 men and 10 hours labour I've successfully binned my old 1.6 after the flood damage and fitted a replacement unit. But it won't start. It turns over when you turn the ignition but just won't fire at all. Tried all the first things like spark plugs sparking, etc etc with no luck. Got a feeling I'm gonna have to plug a diagnostics thing into the ECU.

Any help would be appreciated. By the way the engine was from a Marea, mines a Bravo. We're using my Bravo ECU.

Thanks,

Craig S.

Are you getting spark and fuel?

Was it a straight swap of the engine or did you swap ECU as well?

Getting fuel, but no spark. I'm using my Bravo ECU on the Marea engine. It's exactly the same engine, same Mk etc.

Thanks,

Craig S.

Pint says the crank sensor has had it. Best bet would be a diagnostic though.

Does the code light go out? :)

The crank sensor, right I'll have a look. Don't think the code light does go out thinking about it.

Cheers Tom, I'll put the sensor out of my old engine in and see what happens.

Tom you are a life saver. Changed the sensor, the little beauty cranked right up! Awesome, I'm a happy man!

Considering it was only Thursday last week that I drove through a flood and wrecked my engine, my Bravo's back on the road with an engine from a Marea (probably looked after by an old person and not thrashed) with (estimate) half the mileage of my old one. Total of £150 including engine, haynes manual and oil change and 10 hours of work!

Cheers for help,

Craig S.

Yeah will do, just gotta sort out all the spare parts I'm keeping and not, get my interior back in (as the flood actually flooded my car!) and I'll bang some photos on here. Its not actually a hole, all you can see is the head gasket hanging out of the block. Inside should be interesting though :)

someone at work drove their new shape td mondeo through a puddle the other day, the turbo sucked up a load of water and killed it. Luckily their insurance are paying out the £4k ford wanted to fit a new engine.
