Me and Rob tried to fix my polys again tonight. They are all wired up properly like the guide says.

The passenger side light is working completely now. The drivers side one isnt though. The main beam still doesnt work. We've tried changing the bulb over, redone the sidelight connections, and used a bit of WD40 on it. Still doesnt work though.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

You used WD40??

Did you connect up the wires correctly and wrap them up properly in tape...it could be shorting.

If you've still got the old Bravo lamp try connecting that up and see if you get the same problem. If that's fine it suggests to me the wiring in the poly if dodgy.

Yeah, they are all connected properly and dont seem to be shorting. I'm gonna connect my original headlight again tomorrow.

I've got a feeling that the poly is faulty, as when we found it, it was already unbolted from the car, but still wired in. Maybe someone returned it for being faulty and the scrappers tried to sell it on again hoping it would work?

Also, we had been in a couple of weeks ago and he wanted £35 for it, but this time he said £20.

whats wrong with usin WD40?
the idea was to make sure of a good connection tbh and even then it didnt work, the only thing i can think of is maybe either try it again or maybe get another poly

Bravo, why settle for less 1.8GT BRAVO

Using WD40, a liquid, on electrical connections could cause a short in the circuit. But then I don't how you used it.

ah i see, wasn`t havin a go there btw Matt, just wonderin, i used it in the plugs the idea bein, to make sure a connection was bein made and to elimate any crap that might have gotten in there

Check the god damn fuse ya numpties. LOL. The headlights are all fused individually.

well said joske. i found this when i did this last year. I shorted it out and blew the fuse on the passenger side by accident, ook me 4 hours to realise what i had done lol.

Thanks Joske, I'll check that now. Which one is it? :D

Ok. its not the fuses. I swapped the left/right main beam ones over, and still only the passenger main beam works.

The fuses are under the steering wheel. Check the long horizontal row of fuses. Top left 1 + 2 are for main beam

Yeah, I dug out my manual and found them :).

Swapped them over, but still have the same problem.

Make sure your looking at the right fuses. Also get a multimeter and test the actual current going through the wire for the main beam. This will instantly tell you whether a fuse is to blame or the light.

Ok, what sort of reading should I be getting from a multimeter?

Gonna have to go out and buy one :)

Just see if a current passes through the wire, no need for a reading it'll be 12V anyway. Just set the multimeter to buzz when a current is found.

Make sure you switch the ignition on one click so the lights will work and turn on the main beam. Then locate the main beam wire and touch the multimeter to it. If it buzzes the light is at fault. If it doesn't buzz it'll be a fuse. But make sure the lights are on first otherwise it'll never buzz or show a reading.

Do I need to strip the wire first or can I put it to the pins in the connector?

all working now. went down to the garage to get em adjusted and they had a look. swapped the bulb over and they worked fine. bit weird as we tried a couple of bulbs last night that we knew were working.
