General Help! Key snapped!

I knew this would happen! Last week I went to Timpsons to get a key cut, but he couldn't do it as he didn't have the right software for my key (said it was encrypted) but said if I hang on a few weeks he'll be able to do it.
It's my only key....it just snapped in my hand.
Am I totally buggered now?

I removed the barrel then took out the barrel pins. As long as you have the head of the key for the code you can use anything to start the car

Thankfully we found a auto locksmith who came out in half an hour and cut us a new key...problem is a few days later it's not consistently working.

It works on the passenger door and ignition...but not the boot or driver's side (it sometimes does with a wiggle). It worked find when he cut it though!
I don't understand. The guy reckoned the shape of the key means it's weak spot is high up and because ignition is funny with all the wiggling after 8 years it just snapped.
