Hi I'm Reece and a newbie to this site, just bought my first car on Saturday, a mk2 1.2 8v! Only one owner since new and I have to say it was looking pretty sorry for its self, I have a few suttle and cheap mods in mind but any ideas would be appriciated, I will get some pictures of her on here tomorrow ?.

Only a matter of time. Road grit and stones chip away at the paint of the front face of the sump and it rusts through. You can put the brakes on it with paint.
Oil up the bonnet release cable as well, pita if they snap. Poke out the drain hoses for the scuttle under the wipers. They clog up quick especialy this time of year with leaves and such.
As said already look for rust underneath especially by the inner sills under the rear footwells.
Would also be worth your while removing the rear light clusters and opening the plugs looking for signs of overheating of the black earth wire which can be the cause of all sorts of seemingly unrelated electrical problems.

Nice one for that mate, I'll get around to that at some point and have a look around the whole car
