General hello

Hi again, just had the fourth engine put in and what do you know head gasket problem.had enough now so they are sending the head off tomorrow to skim it and check the valves etc.if everybody reading this could keep their fingers Crossed for me that would be great.I'm determined to get this car back on the road.

How bizarre, it appears our engine issues are almost the same...

Here's hoping that we both get through this and can start enjoying driving rather than paying garage bills!

It needs 14valves reseated,it will cost 400 pound including gasket, skim, bolts and pressure test.this has got to work.head should be back tomorrow,he should be fitting Monday ready for my birthday drive on tuesday

the engine is running, the garage took it for a test drive, they think the variator is stuck.i have only spoke to the recepionist over the phone and am going to the garage in the morning to find out the next step.atleast i can sleep tonight knowing that its running.just an update for anyone interested, ciao

Well done, at least yours is running! Still waiting to hear an update on mine.

I was expecting to have the car back by now, garage told me this morning that because of the stuck variator three valves have been bent, they have sent the head off for the new valves to be put in.so now I am looking at Tuesday for collection of the car.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully your next update is with good news.

The margin where the variator moves the camshaft is never going to bend any valve. Won't make any sense if you think clear about it.
IT will make the engine sound rough but that's it.

Looks to me like they misplaced the timing belt

I was wondering how it would bend the valves, but not knowing anything about car mechanics didn't really have the information to question them.but I will bring it up with them.

As above.

Only thing I can think is if the variator was stuck in the actuated position rather than rest position when the belt was fitted and the timing set up, then freed itself off in use? This would throw the valve timing out a few degrees.

Thanks,if it helps they said that when it was idling it sounded fine but at high revs it sounded rough.they also told me that they had flushed the engine to see if that would unstick the variant or,but I'm guessing the damage was done by then.thanks again for your inputs though.

Its home,I am happy(don't mention the bill) I'm going to sleep tonight, thanks for all your input.I'll get some photos up soon
