I have just joined the Fiat forum. I am excited and hopeful with regard to all the valuable info from all you Fiat owner vets and look forward to eventually contributing myself. I am closing in on a 1972 Fiat 124 spider. I have some trepidation due to the reputation that precedes Fiats, i.e., Fix It Again Tony. Is it as bad as people make it out to be? Are there problematic quirks that I should pay special attention to? I realize that a lot depends on the condition of the car. Having said that, I must ad, that with some marques, it seems not to matter; I am referring here to many of the English “sports cars”, i.e., MGs, Triumphs, Sprites, etc.
The specs I can offer up for the Spider I am looking are as follows: Complete driveline has been recently rebuilt and improved with no issues. Rebuilt engine, transmission. 5 speed with 1600 cc engine, headers and 4 bbl carb, new interior, canvas top, tires, refinished allow rims, the lower trailing arm replaced, no rust, clear title. I am going to have it looked at by a mechanic, but just wanted to put the question out to see what experiences others have had. I hope to look at and test drive the spider this weekend. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
