hi all, i got a 1.2 mk 2 punto yesterday from ebay, its the first car iv ever bought blind,
shes not too bad, i payed £335 with 10 months mot.
she has a couple of typical known faults that are cheap to fix
1. oil leak from rocker gasket and o ring
2. heater only works on 4 (possibly the resistor)
3. the ciggy lighter socket wont work, it lights up but thats it so i guess it needs replacing
4. needs a good service

she also has a few things that need replacing and/or fixing over time
1. a parcel shelf. mine is missing
2. has a dent the the rear ns quarter pannel (should push out, then sand and spray)
3. would like an induction kit (got to wait for some spair cash)
4. needs tires (eventually upgrade to alloys)

if anyone has any tips or pointers of any sort then they would be welcomed with open arms

hi homeward, yes that would be great, im leicester born and bread, moved here 7/8 years ago, so will be good to be on home ground again.
i prety much know my way round a car and will always have a look around for advice, the only thing that concerns me is that dreaded airbag light, but im sure i will get it sorted.

4a. needs a good service

1a = Common yes - cheap yes
There is a link somewhere to a £3.50 replacement seal for a 10pk, so its worth while just doing the coil pack that way
the rocker cover seal, again common, plenty of goo might help here

2a = that purly sounds like the resistor pack failing, as speed 4 is not using the resistor pack at all! I think i paid £3 for them from my local scrappy

3a = The light runs off a seperate circuit - the lighting circuit, and earths on the cig socket body, so its going to be a +ve feed in, which is going to be the fuse, cheap simple fix, look in the manual to locate the fuse and replace with suitable alternative
It wont be a connection problem as you said the light works for it

4a = A quick service is easy todo on punto, oil, air and oil filter are about £25 all together, but add sparks @ £12 and HT's @ £10, it looks a little bit daunting, but again, often overlooked and missed till its misfiring and they've got no money left
Do it - look after it, it should look after you

1b = Ebay or scrappies
Dont forget there is a different shelf for 5dr and 3dr, make sure yours match

2b = it may even pop out with heat and cold spray, even a dent puller (Suction thing) may help here to pop worst out, a proper repsray is only way to mask it properly

3b = Cheap option is the Ford Focus induction, cheap + noise + No power gain
or the expensive, GSR which does give gains and noise :)
GSR is hard to get hold of, but i hear there is a new bloke doing it now, and he's got a decent setup with them going to get them out to people

4b = tyres are a must must must if there ready for replacing
Why? winter is coming, you want decent tread depth to ensure sufficient water clearing, Uniroyal do a Rain tyre that is generally good going, and reasonably cheap too! have a look at what other people think about tyres to make your decision

Ziggy

3a = sorted, it was just a fuse and she even had a full set of spare's, thanks i saved a few quid there (y)

4b = iv been hunting around and found a big difference in price for the same product, i have found some where that sells them for £48 each, not too bad, but do you know anywhere cheaper?:confused:
