7th March 2011 .. Tootle, my little Fiat 500 Lounge, will be arriving in the UK. Come week commencing 21st March 2011, I will be physically sick with excitement, as that's the week Autoworld in Chesterfield are expecting Tootle to be delivered.
Why a Fiat 500 and why Tootle?
My last car was a N reg Nissan Micra .. lovely little white car, with Movie written on the bonnet of the car, which made her original .. I never saw another Movie Micra. We had such journeys .. you know those days when you are just fed up and don't know what to do? Well, what I do, is usually just get in the car and zip around the beautiful country lanes here in Derbyshire.
Sadly, I'm now no longer able to use my left leg with pain .. sometimes quite severe pain, and therefore using a clutch became a bit of a no, no. The decision to let the Micra go was made for me really, when she majorly failed an M.O.T. and we could no longer justify throwing money at an old car, as superb as she was. So... she went to car heaven ....
I had a good couple of months being car less, but because we live out of town, you really need to be able to use the public transport, or have your own to get into town to use facilities such as chemists, doctors and so on.
I am unable to walk far and use crutches when I do .. so we decided to look into getting an automatic.
The Fiat 500 was an instant thought. Going only from the outer looks, it looked cheeky, fun and pretty funky .. everything I want in a car .. AND they do it in white !
When we went to have a look and a test drive at Autoworld in Chesterfield and saw the interior aswell ... well, that was it ... instant LOVE>
We went back a week later to have yet another test drive and to make the final arrangements and I signed on the dotted line ..
SO .. here's a picture of my expected car .. and I've had a static window sticker made .. static so that it can be easily removed without damage to the glass, for the windscreen.
The little guy above, is Basil .. the dog who is going to go on LOTS of adventures with Tootle .. and I will be one loopy owner documenting her time with her much needed, much longed for, car.
So .. that's me .. Saffy .. I'm waiting for a spinal cord stimulator trial at the moment .. after which I wont be able to drive for a good 8 weeks .. but as I've chosen the dual logic Fiat, I am hoping that perhaps it may be shorter. (The reason is I'm not allowed to bend, twist, put my hands higher than my shoulders, nor lift anything even as heavy as a kettle - as the leads that will be placed in my spine need to scar in)
At least, I will manage a few weeks driving of Tootle before the operation .. I hope .. (watch me get an early cancellation now) .. and I will have Tootle to look forward to driving afterwards ..
I've chosen the Lounge because I fancied being able to see the sky above me .. and a dark interior with black check seating.
Excited is a bit of an understatement at the moment.
